Yeah, I just brought it with in case I get bored, but I am. Wow, that's nice. I don't think you're gonna get bored. I think i'm gonna I'm going to present you a very interesting case. I've actually been working on this one for a while. Yeah, put it on the back burner when I did the Kennon Barbie case, the kenn and Barbie Killers, and so I've been dying to talk to you about this. I am interested to hear it, but I'm like, I don't know anything about it, because you've mentioned a couple of things about different cases, but you are working on so many at one time that I don't know which one we're actually going to talk about today. I need to do better. Well, I'm going to start with giving you something really, really quick here. I think you're going to be excited about this. I've never done this before. But it's a little drink. Oh okay, it's actually an alcoholic beverage. It's one fifteen on Sunday afternoon bed heck, oh boy, it's five o'clock. We've never done this before. A lot of our fellow podcasters do drinks, and you know their case, but we've never done this before. Meant, it's a Moscow mule I which is part of our

1:34 case today. Yeah, and I thought I ordered the Moscow mule cups from Amazon, but I they never came, so I must not have so and I'm not much of a mixologist. How how did I do? It's good, really good one before I like, I really like Moscow. Actually haven't had one in a long time, but yeah, it's really good. Like ginger beer. Did you get ginger beer? And our lovely daughter actually went to the store and got ginger beer for us, So I will give you the recipe. You can find it online. But two ounces of vodka, one half ounce of fresh lime juice, three ounces of ginger beer, preferably fever Tree Tree fever Tree, which is actually coincidentally the brand that she got for us. Yeah. Oh, I forgot the lime wedge. I'm so sorry. It's one of the garbage. She can cook carab a few.

2:24 I forgot that. But yeah, I found that nice little insulated cup that was in our donate pile. I don't remember this at all. Yeah, it's from you. We have all these we get all these weird things that we don't really necessarily want that you bring home from trade shows. Yeah, and yeah, I was like, oh, this is perfect because I didn't have the copper cup. Yeah. Well it's really good. Thank you. I hope I don't get too loopy. I know you can. You can drink the whole. I mean it's only, you know, two ounces of vodka, so I can't get it too much strong. I'm gonna chug it right, go ahead. I was gonna make one for myself too, and I was like, a, I'll just give it to you. But speaking of our adorable daughter, sorry, I was bending over. She made us some cookies too, Oh man, I know's just keep on coming. Do you want to eat this? Yeah? Sorry? Here is that a rhetorical question? No? But yeah, she made those last night with her boyfriend.

3:22 And there we'll take a bite and I'll come back and tell you what it is. Okay. So the cookies our daughter made for us, our pistachio white chocolate chip cookies. So good. Yeah, really good, and I forgot. I also brought dots home style pretzels because everyone, really, we had so many people that hadn't tried dots when we first talked about that many months, one of our earlier, earliest snacks. But I brought cinnamon sugar seasoned pretzel twist. They're man, I think they're super good. Yeah, they're really good. I'm like, I'm overwhelmed by all the goodness here. Yeah, our son did not like these cinnamon sugar pretzels, but I think they're really good there. Yeah, I think they're very good, really sweet, and I don't know, I think they're really yummy. Yeah, great, great flavor. But if you wouldn't like a pretzel sugar on it, you probably it's a taste like cinnamon toast to me. Yeah, yeah, exactly, so good. Yeah, good snacks. Yeah, way to go me, Yeah, good job. Thanks well. Our daughter gave me the cookie right before we went on, and it was delicious, very good.

4:30 I should also say, though, you and I both have been eating as little sugar as possible, So anytime I put sugar mouth, I'm like, this is the best thing I ever read. Okay, So I was just gonna give you this story about the Moscow mule really quick. And this is pretty much coming right from the Moscow Copper Company's website. I edited a little bit. In nineteen forty one, Sophy Berazinski emigrated to the United States from Russia carrying two thousand solid copper mugs. Probably she had them in boxes. I don't think she had them on her backs. That's two thousands a lot. Sophie's father owned and operated a copper factory in Russia known as the Moscow Copper Company. Sophie had created this design for the original copper mug, and her father ran the presses that stamped out the mugs. Unable to sell the mugs in Russia, Sophie decided to make the journey to America, but the mugs didn't sell and seemed destined for the scrap heap in America too.

5:32 Sophie's husband, Max, was tired of a copper mugs cluttering the house and told her to find a buyer for the mugs or I'm tossing them. She began desperately seeking out a buyer, walking door to door in Hollywood in search of a restaurant or lounge owner who was interested in the mugs. During one of her long days in search of a buyer for the mugs, Fade intervened and Sophie walked into the famous Cock and Bull pub on the Sunset Strip. Her timing was perfect. She helped create a Moscow mule with John Martin, who had recently purchased the floundering Smernoff vodka in the nineteen thirties. It's hard to believe that Smernoff vodka was ever floundering Americans. Americans had no interest in vodka. Beer, whiskey, or other cocktails ruled the roost in America at this time. Jack Morgan was in a similar bind as owner of the Cock and Bowl. He was trying to introduce America to his own brand of ginger beer. The duo lamented their lackluster sales and sought redemption for their respective products and walked Sophie with her solid copper mugs. If Sophie would tell the story, the trio spent hours developing a drink that would bring together the fizzy nature of the ginger beer, the punch of the vodka, and the cold properties of copper to create the next great cocktail. After a number of taste tests and a few failed concoctions, they stumbled upon a recipe for a cocktail that would solve all their problems. The Moscow Mule was born on that day in nineteen forty one, the perfect combination of vodka and ginger beer housed in the

I don't know if we fawn over it. I fawn over it. I had no idea there was such a rich history there to the Moscow Mule. Yeah. Well, I'm glad you enjoyed it. I love that it was born out of a husband basically telling the wife, you better do something with these mugs or I'm going to be pissed off. Yeah. So, how much of that have you drink? Oh? I don't know, maybe a quarter of it? Okay, probably enough. Today I'm going to tell you the story of Corey and Eric Richens. The case has not made its way through the justice system yet. Corey is innocent until proven guilty by a court of law. She is accused of poisoning her husband of nine years, Eric with a fentinyl laced moscow mule. Oh, this whole thing, it is sad technologues. So you'll have to This is like you'll have to find out at the end of the episode, like how far will Rich make it to the end of the episode. This was an unexpected twist in the case. I should not have shouldn't be joking because of course your moscow mule is probably not. Of course it's probably not.

But these I think are better than I think. They're right on right. Okay, I'm going to start with reading Eric Ritchins obituary. It's really long, but it really gets to the nugget of who Eric was. Okay, Eric Eugene Richens made his last extravagant and largely unexpected gesture on March fourth, twenty twenty two, signing off on a life, in his own words, lived the fullest and with few regrets. God certainly perfected the mold. When Eric was born to Jean and Linda Carter Richen's on May thirteenth, nineteen eighty two in Bountiful, Utah. Eric's world revolved around his family, his love for hunting, the family cattle ranch, and his insane drive as a successful entrepreneur. Being born into the Richen's legacy shaped Eric's formative years and resulted in a lifetime of hard work, dedication, and fierce loyalty. Being the eldest was a dubious task, but he was up for the challenge and led and loved his sisters fiercely. At an early age, Eric learned the joys of keeping horses and cows around. He spent countless hours helping his dad work the ranch, hauling hay, feeding the animals, and mending fences. He loved his family unconditionally and was a devoted son, brother, and uncle. Eric was a family man who always strove to be the

He was an attentive and loving father to his three sons, Carter, Ash and Weston, and a devoted husband to the love of his life and wife of nine years, Corey Darden Richens. Eric did absolutely everything in his power to provide his family with every possible opportunity to learn, grow and have fun. Growing up. Eric was a serious athlete who loved all sports, whether it was watching them or playing them. He was involved in cross country, basketball, baseball, and soccer. He was also the coach or assistant coach on all his boys teams. He spent countless hours coaching and teaching the boys to play aggressive and give it there all.

10:33 Eric truly cared about every single child he coached and wanted the absolute best for all of them. Eric was an avid outdoorsman and dedicated hunter. He was an excellent archer and marksman and had multiple trophy animals from all around the world including Africa, Mexico, Canada, and the United States. There was never a dull moment when you are around Eric, whether it would be showing up to a family dinner with no socks or sleeves on his shirt because he had to make an emergency bathroom stop along the way, or his calling to tell you he rolled the four wheeler for the umteenth time, is stuck and needs you to come get him. Eric loved to have fun and was always the life of the party. He owned almost every motorized toy possible, from four wheelers to side by sides, to trucks and snowmobiles. Because of this, he of course holds the Richmond's Family records for the most roles and collisions of motorcycle motorized vehicles, as well as the most stitches received from a single incident two hundred on his face to be exact. Eric was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints. He served a two year mission in Mexico, where he learned to speak Spanish fluently. He received a bachelor's degree from the University of Utah and International Studies with a minor in Spanish.

11:48 Together, Eric's mission and his education truly saved shaped his business acumen. He had the perfect combination of business sense and foresight. He built a very successful masonry business from the ground up and helped many friends do the same. He had a special ability to build close relationships with everyone he worked with, which really allowed his business to thrive. Eric loved every aspect of his job, but most of all, he loved the people he worked for and those he worked with. Eric faithfully supported organizations that he truly believed it. He never was one that wanted recognition or accolades. He did most things anonymously and without recognition. Eric was a true champion of all people. It did not matter if you were an employee, family friend, or the next random person walking down the street. If you needed anything, you could count on him.

12:37 He truly cared about each person He meant. He was always trying to help people find better situations in work and in life. Eric made sure to set time aside to do what he loved most and made sure that everyone around him did the same. Eric loved fully, laughed loudly, and lived life with reckless abandon He enjoyed great adventures to far off places, but also cherished the small and finer things in life, like his under arm or sweatsuits and spending time with his family and friends. No obstacle was too great here Rico. He simply viewed each one as a challenge. No peaks were too high, and the next adventure was always just around the next bend. Words can't describe the loneliness and loss that has felt in every heart that was lucky enough to know him. We all need to learn from Eric's example and be sure to make the time to have fun and do what we love. Thank you Rico for being such an inspiration and role model for us all. We love you Eric with all our hearts and more. And there's a little bit more about his relatives that are still living well. He sounds like quite a guy.

13:41 Yeah, someone who loved life. Yeah, it sounds like a really fun person who did not deserve the faith that befell him. I wanted to mention too, but it was in though. But you were. But Eric's mother died in twenty eighteen after a battle with cancer, and she sounds like she was also a really great lady. She was a lifelong teacher, educator, and principle. So the Richmonds family is one of the oldest and most established in Summit County, Utah. They have been active members in the community, local politics, and the LDS Church for decades. A library is even named for one of Eric's relatives. Summit County is in the upper eastern corner of Utah, bordered by Wyoming. The Uenta Mountain Range runs east to west and the Wasatch Mountains north to south. The largest city in Summit County is Park City, which is home to the Sundance Film Festival every January. Summit County is beautiful, with an abundance of both summer and winter outdoor activities, and is a great place to visit. The county is the most diverse and religion in the state. Forty four percent claim no religion, and about thirty eight percent of the county identify themselves as Latter day Saints. About sixty six percent of Utah residents identify as LDS or Mormon. President of the Mormon Church Russell Nelson insisted that Mormons and non Mormons alike stick to the term quote the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints instead of saying Mormon or LDS. Mister

You did in Park City especially, We've been to Park City.

15:54 Park City was dis gorgeous. I love Park City. It's so amazing. Yeah, and I went to the Sunday Film Festival a couple of times and it was just so so great. I just had a great time there. We've, for a brief time, considered moving to Utah. Did were very serious about that possibility, isn't it at least once or twice? Because of the job you had at the time. Yep, yep. The company was headquartered there, and we thought about moving there. I knew a lot of people there. It was a great, great place, really great people, and uh yeah, it didn't didn't quite work out. But beautiful, beautiful area. That's a great place. So Air grew up on a cattle ranch where the days were long and full of chores like mending fences, feeding animals, monkey bucking stalls, and baling. Hey, Eric was one of those guys that was more comfortable outside than in. He loved to be outside playing sports or hunting and fishing. Eric and his good friend Cody Wright started a successful masonry business called C. A. E. Stonemasonry in twenty ten, and they have an Instagram account that still exists, and their work is just stunning. Yeah, and they do work on these, you know, multimillion dollar homes and it's just just amazing because I think remember years ago when we were looking I think when we were going to buy this house. We looked at this house that a tile a tile guy who had owned it.

17:11 It was just really stunning. Yeah, so much you don't have that. You don't see that kind of like artisan craft work very much anymore. Yeah. They built beautiful lands, hardscapes and intricate indoor a tile for upscale homes in Salt Lake City area and like I said, you can look them up on Instagram. Just really impressive. The business partners had mutual life insurance policies on each other, which is common for business partners. The business was worth about four million dollars at the time of Eric's death, which that's a that's a lot of money for like a business that they built from the ground up. Eric was friendly and outgoing, and he made friends wherever he went. One special friend was Linda King, who he met at the home Depot, where Eric visited almost daily. She told ABC News four quote, he was the sweetest guy to me. He seemed like one of my kids. Seriously, he was just the sweetest, sweetest guy. He was so nice to all of his employees and everybody ud quote. Linda said she misses Eric and his laugh dally dearly, and he had the best laugh in town. She also recalled how much he loved being a dad. Linda was the one who introduced Corey and Eric. Corey Darden worked at the home Depot with Linda.

18:21 Corey was young, pretty and single. When Eric was at the store, he'd wait to go through Linda's checkout lane, but one day she was busy and she encouraged him to go through Corey's lane. They hit it off immediately and began dating. Eric was married to Julie Jorgensen before him met Corey. They were married in August two thousand and five, but divorced in two thousand and nine. They didn't have any children. Together. It is rumored that Julie cheated on Eric with a co worker, prompting the divorce. Julie, who was just twenty six, was tragically killed in a car accident in January twenty eleven when she was rear ended at a traffic light by someone going seventy miles an hour. So I was really sad. Corey and Eric were married on June fifteen, twenty thirteen. Corey was pregnant at the time with their first child. On the day of their wedding, Corey was presented with a prenup by Eric's mother. Apparently the divorce had heard Eric pretty badly and it had gotten messy. But the prenup was fair, dividing everything in half and in the case of his death, Corey would inherit the bulk of his estate, which she believed to be about three point six million dollars. So pretty nice. Yeah, what do you think about getting his mom to deliver the prenup? Though? That kind of makes me laugh a little. I mean, it is kind of funny, but it struck me as she was just the matriarch and she just was going to take care of her kids no matter what. Good for her We don't know much about Corey's life before Eric, but she went to Weber State University and earned a bachelor's degree in healthcare administration

19:55 and later received a master's degree from Utah State University and Human Resources. In twenty ten, she started a housekeeping company. People she went to school with said that she was nice and pretty, but she was also smart, driven, and hard worker. She seemed determined to be successful at any cost. It almost seemed like Corey had something that she was trying to prove to everyone, like I'm successful and yeah. So Corey and Eric had three sons together and rapid succession. Eric didn't want Corey to work outside the home. He wanted her to stay home and raise the boys, but she preferred to work. They got a nanny, and along with help from family, Corey went back to school again and received her real estate license. She opened her own real estate company, Kay Ritchen's Realty in twenty nineteen with Eric's help. Corey enjoyed flipping houses. And you know, you can make a lot of money flipping houses, but it's dependent on the volatile housing market and choosing the right property. It requires a lot of up from capital, but Corey had a lot of connections in the construction business and believed that she could make her business successful. But as early as twenty sixteen, Corey began stealing money from Eric's business account and running up debt on his personal credit cards. Oh Boy, twenty twenty, Corey had stolen over one hundred thousand dollars and possibly as much as two hundred thousand dollars from the business account and spent thirty thousand dollars on his personal credit card. She had also taken out a two hundred and fifty

21:26 thousand dollars home equity line of credit in his name against their home using a forged durable power of attorney. Or did she like did she do the books for his business or how was she able to like steal this money from his business? I think at the time she was heavily involved in their business. Corey also stole about one hundred and thirty five thousand dollars in money that Eric had set aside to pay his business taxes. He had asked her to pay them, and she claimed that she had, but she pocketed the money. So all of that come and that's that's a lot of money that shouldn't catch up with you eventually. Yeah, And thinking about that, when you think about my addiction to buying as leisure wear, it pails in comparison, right, which one pails in comparison Your addiction pails in comparison to yes? Yes.

22:21 When Eric learned of her financial misdeeds, he demanded she pay him back, and she agreed. I think they must have kept their finances kind of separate, and in January twenty twenty two, she hacked into Eric's computer and changed the beneficiary on his life insurance policy from code eacher herself. She also changed the beneficiary on Cody's policy to herself. Eric was alerted to the change by the insurance company and changed it back immediately, but the trust he had and his wife was understandably broken. What Eric didn't know was that Corey had taken out four secret insurance policies on him between twenty fifteen and twenty seventeen, totaling nearly two million dollars without his knowledge. Boy just a month prior to his death, Corey purchased another life insurance policy on Eric for one hundred thousand dollars, and she also purchased life insurance policies for her sons, which is super concerning to me. I'll say so in this case. When I was researching this case, I kept asking myself, like, how much money is enough money for you, Corey, because I just don't understand, Like three point six million dollars seems like plenty of money to me, right, Yeah.

23:32 In twenty twenty, Eric secretly created a living trust consisting of the family home, his personal property, and his share of the CNE masonry business. He appointed his older sister, Katie Richard Spenson, as executor, and he also changed his power of attorney. Eric confided in his sister that Corey might try to kill him for his money. He told friends and family that if something happened to him, look no further than Corey, which is kind of so frustrating, Like, yeah, maybe I just wish he would have told Corey, Yeah, if you have that suspicion, you should act on it. The living trust invalidated the prenuptial agreement. Eric consulted a divorce attorney, but waffled on whether or not to file because he did love his wife and he really wanted to make his marriage work, and he wanted a two parent family home for his children. I know you're thinking white it and Eric divorce Corey. It was just important to him that they stayed together. And he already had one failed marriage, right, and he didn't have kids from his first marriage, right, he did, so having three kids, I would imagine you would want to, you know, give it every effort to try to keep the family together. That was his intent. Eric had told family and friends that he thought Corey wasn't beyond killing him for his money. The first incident occurred in twenty twenty when they were vacationing in Greece. Eric called his sister from vacation and told her that he thought Corey might be trying to poison him. He'd gotten sick after she'd made him a drink, and maybe, like, what did she poison him with? Did she travel right to

25:02 grease with some sort of poison? On Valentine's Day twenty twenty, Corey made Eric a sandwich and put it on the seat of his truck with a love note. He immediately had a reaction to the sandwich. He broke out in hives and was having difficulty breathing. He used his son's EpiPen and took a bena drill. What was able to stave off the attack. So I don't know what she would have put in the sandwich. I mean, I don't know have any knowledge of any allergies that he had. Yeah, I'm curious to you, what would think fentonel if she had quit fentinel in the sandwich, that that would have caused an allergic reaction. Yeah. So on March third, twenty twenty two, after the kids were down for the night, Corey brought Eric a Moscow mule while he was relaxing in bad They had a reason to celebrate. She was about to close. You're still sipping on yours, still hanging in there. Huh. Yeah, I'm not getting the fentanyl yet. I'll be honest with you. I have no idea where I would get fentanyl. She was about to close on a new real estate deal, the biggest one of her career. It was how she couldn't stop thinking about a twenty thousand square foot mansion full of possibilities that had sat unfinished for five years. Corey and Eric had many arguments over this deal. He thought it was a risky investment, but according to Corey, Eric had finally given his blessing. According to the charging documents. Corey claimed to have found Eric cold and unresponsive when she crawled into bed around three am. She had returned to the primary bedroom after she'd fallen asleep in one of her son's beds, comforting

26:34 him after a night terror. She called nine to one one. The dispatcher told her to put Eric on the floor and begin CPR. EMTs arrived at three twenty two am. Resuscitation attempts failed, and Eric was pronounced dead of the scene. Corey told law enforcement that she had left her cell phone charging on the bedside table when she went to attend to her son, but later, when her phone was analyzed, it was determined that it had been locked and unlocked several times during the time that she claimed to have been with her son. Movement was also recorded on the phone, and text messages that were sent in the window of time were deleted from her phone and from the recipient's phone as well. Corey told law enforcement that she had performed CPR and Eric when she found him, but I think this is unlikely because there was blood around his mouth that was undisturbed when the paramedics arrived, and Corey didn't have blood on her face. Paramedics asked to see Eric's medications, but Corey said she didn't know where they were because the maid just left them at random places.

27:34 The autopsy revealed that Eric orally ingested five times Zelie's lethal dose of illicit fentanyl, not medical grade. Authorities believed the moscow mule was laced with fentanyl, which the medical examiner said was ingested orally. Due to the contents in Eric's stomach, the manner of death was rolled a homicide by the medical examiner. One major mistake that was made on the night of Eric's death is that the cup with the moscow mule was not taken into custody. Corey mentioned to investigators that Eric had had a prescription painkiller addiction in high school, but he hadn't had a problem since and never did hard drugs, but did like the occasional THHC gummy. So I know, as in any religion, there are like different, you know, different levels of adherence to the religion, but all like a lot of those things are pretty big no nos in the LDS church. I would think THHC gummies and drinking alcohol. Do you think modern day LDS people kind of don't follow the rules as strictly. Well, I think there's a pity is supposed to have caffeine, right, Yeah, there's a range, I know, but I know like in Utah in particular, the people that I knew of the LDS faith were pretty strict well talk for really, because I remember you taking me like people around the office head diet coax all the time. But yeah, but caffeine is one thing, but like drinking alcohol or doing THHC would be another. Can you talk for a second about drinking alcohol in Utah? Drinking alcohol in Utah is difficult, Like you would go to the bar. So, I don't know if it's still the same this was. I think it is at least I don't know ten

29:07 fifteen years ago. But you would go to a bar and you would have to have a membership at the bar to order a drink. First of all. So you'd go to the bar and you'd be like, oh, could I have a beer? And they'd be like, you have to have a membership. You'd be like, oh, how do I get a membership? I'd be like, well, you have to have somebody sponsor you. So you'd have to go to another table and say, would you sponsor me? And then they'd you'd become a member, but then all the beer is like low alcohol beer. Also, oh, I don't remember that. Yeah, we used to go there all the time, and you like a good sporting event. I remember you would go to a bar to watch a sporting event and then you'd be like great okay. In April twenty twenty two, after the autopsy results, police issued a warrant to search the Briton's home. Corey's phone and several computers were taken from the home. Communications between Corey and someone identified as Cel were found during this time. Cell alleged that Corey first contacted her via text message to purchase a hydro code own from her sometime between December twenty twenty one and January twenty twenty two, claiming it was for an investor of hers that had a back injury. Those text messages were later deleted by both parties. CL per Quarry's instructions, delivered the drugs to a property of Corey's referred to as the Midway House, and left them in the fire pit where Corey had left cash for CL. About two weeks later, Corey contact at CL again and said her investor needed something stronger and specifically asked for the quote strong Michael Jackson's stuff. Fentanyl is not the Michael Jackson stuff, that's proper. File cl gave Corey fifteen to thirty ventinyl pills, for which she

30:41 paid. Guess how much fifteen to thirty fentinyl? I have no IDEA hundred dollars, nine hundred dollars, And it's just kind of weird that she's like fifteen to thirty. That seems like such a large range to me. I don't really know much about fentinyl, but like, it doesn't take much at all to do to have a lethal dose, right, I don't think so either, And I think that's a that's a really good question and we should talk to talk about at the end. At the time of Eric's death, Corey's personal finances were grim. I can't even imagine having that much debt and owing that much money to people and being that messed up in your finances. We talked a little bit about the Midway house, but I'm going to talk a little bit more about that. It's an unfinished mansion, and like I said, it had become an obsession for Corey and she had to have it at any cost. It's a compound, really, not just a house. Like I said. It's two hundred I'm sorry, twenty thousand square feet with eight bedrooms, twelve bathrooms, a basketball court, swimming pool, theater room, golf simulator, rock wall, along with a three thousand, three hundred square foot guesthouse on a nearly ten acre lot. I'm pretty sure how we're living without a golf simulator, I know, I don't know. Even there was a virtual reality room that I forgot to mention too. But he said the day after his death, she closed and she had a party. Yes, And I say allegedly. I found this information from several different sources. But I say allegedly because I just can't believe that she did death. But I did read one report where someone said that she was just having like a get together to remember Eric. So yeah, very brazen. On March sixth, two days after Eric's death, Corey hired

Also, Eric had twenty five thousand dollars in cash on him at the time of his death, so that she just has money all over the place. It caused an ugly fight between her and her sister in law Amy. Amy told her that she had no right to open when the safe because it was part of the estate and she no longer had any rights to it. Corey had no idea what Amy was talking about. She jumped her and punched her in the face and neck. The police arrived and tried to settle the dispute. Crystal Bowman Carter, the attorney that had helped Eric with his new estate plan, was called and she talked to Corey and confirmed the existence of the new trust. Some of the changes Eric had made included Corey not being his designated health care agent should he fall ill or incapacitated. The trust did provide for Corey and the children, but Corey would not be allowed to control the money.

She self published the book Oh Okay. The description on the book JACKA says it's heartwarming and reassuring. Written by a loving mother who personally faced this challenge. This book is designed to offer comfort and solace to young minds. Are You with Me follows the story of a child who has lost their father, but who was reminded that his presence still exists around them, just like an angel watching over them.

She explained to the host that she had devised a tactic that she called the Three Seased to help her children deal with grief connection, continuity, and care. She told her children that Dad is still here, it's just in a different way, even though she had removed all his belongings and only one picture of him remained in the home after his death. Joining us now is author of Are You with Me? Corey Richards, to share her three c's to helping kids cope with grief. And Corey, I want to start with your story. What happened in your personal life? So, my husband passed away unexpectedly last year.

The host had no idea that Corey was being investigated for Eric's murder, but after her arrest, they said they felt duped and sickened by Corey. Corey had told them off air that she thought Eric had died from complications of COVID because he had an existing lung issue. Aggravated and murder in Utah is the only capital offense, meaning it is a death penalty crime, and Utah murder and aggravated murder are the classifications for murder, unlike other states that use first and second degree murder. Aggravated murder is punishable by death or life imprisonment. If the death penalty is sought, it is a capital felony. Otherwise it is a first degree felony. Cl has been identified as Carmen Marie Lawber, fifty one, who came forward and is cooperating with police. She was currently on probation for previous drug charges, including a twenty twenty one charge of possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute and possession of drug paraphernalia. She previously worked for Corey cleaning homes from her real estate business. Prior to her involvement with Corey, authorities had had her on the

Court records also indicate that Corey purchased one thousand, three hundred dollars of fentonel on March ninth, five days after Eric's death, begging the question if Corey could have an addiction issue. Lauber has not been charged or arrested in connection to her dealings with Corey, but is scheduled to appear in court in August so any Dano. On May twelfth, twenty twenty three, during a bail hearing, the judge denied Corey bail because of the severity of her crime, the substantial evidence against her, and the drug charges. Corey filed a lawsuit in June disputing Eric's will. She claims the estate rightfully belongs to her and accuses Eric of trying to defraud her by taking legal action to shield his property and businesses from her without her knowledge. She issuing to remove Katie Richard Spenson as trustee, arguing the prenuptial agreement she signed in twenty thirteen and titles to her to his assets because he died and they weren't divorced, or Corey such a victim she truly is. But Corey is being sued by Eric's estate and a civil suit filed on June twenty seven for thirteen million dollars in damages. The lawsuit is seeking half the equity from the sale of the Richn's nearly two million dollars home, two million dollars from the proceeds from the sale of Eric's half of the stonemasonry business and all of his personal property, and more. The lawsuit wants to stop the publication of Corey's book and for any proceeds from the book to be turned over to the estate.

The defense also attempted to portray Eric as a partier. Richard's family spokesperson Greg Scourtis said that the family is very happy charges were filed and they were hopeful justice will be served. Quote. They have three boys, three young boys, and I think Eric, being so involved in their lives as a soccer coach, baseball coach, basketball coach, wanted to keep the family together. Eric was a good father. He was a philanthropist. He cared about a lot of people. He did the best he could to make the most of his marriage. There are three reasons Eric stayed.

Immediately after Eric was killed, Corey told us she could not help us get anything ready for the funeral, as she was too distraught with grief. We shortly found out that was not true at all.

I will never forget the look in her eyes when she attacked me that Sunday morning. It was early and had been snowing most of the night. I was just getting ready to leave and heading out to the car when I saw a locksmith and Eric's detached girl starting to drill out his gun safe. I asked Corey multiple times why we could not just call my dad for the code. I could not understand why she was breaking into and ruining Eric's safe. To this, she screamed at me at the top of her lungs, called me some inappropriate things I cannot share with you here, and then told me to get out of her house. It was then that I told her that she could not kick me out of my brother's house. My sister Katie was now the executor of Eric's trust and estate, and just like Eric, she would not want the defendant breaking into his gun safe. Corey looked at me with pure hatred and rage. I was messing

That day before the funeral funeral, Corey opened a bank account and asked everyone that was grieving to send her money instead of sending the family cards and flowers. It was not even two weeks after Eric's passing that we were told she had taken down all but one photo of my brother and removed all his clothing from the house. Corey put together a golf tournament in Eric's name two months after his death, on what would have been his fortieth birthday, and told his family all of us that we were not allowed to attend. Since Eric's death, it has come to our attention that Corey took out multiple life insurance policies on Eric without his knowledge. It appears that she forged his signature on various documents, assigned herself as Eric's durable power of attorney, inappropriately diverted money from his business to herself, and assigned herself as beneficiary of Eric's portion of our mother's retirement account.

Her most recent business venture was offering a children's book about how to help grieving children cope with the loss of the death of a parent. In this book, she had the audacity to use the boy's real names and even use their last family portrait. Her behavior gives me great concern, as she has exploited the boys for money and will likely do so again. In addition, Corey has weaponized Eric's children, manipulating my dad to do or not do things by threatening to come in to cut him out of their lives if he did not capitulate to her demands. She similarly deprived the boys of contact with myself, my sister, and her daughters unless we agreed to give her the money and Eric's trust money that Eric wanted to go to his three children. Well, it is powerful. I know it was really long, but and we that actually is edited it. But yeah, I thought her words were very powerful. Yeah, so I watched that clip, and the thing that struck me is she looked like she was trying really hard to cry, like she had a tissue and she was like poking at her eye with the tissue, but her eyes were completely dry. She did not come across as the most authentic victim. Amy closed with I never thought evil like this existed. In July, the Richin's family filed another civil suit, this

59:29 time against Corey's mom, Lisa Darden, and brother Rooney Darden. They alleged the Dardens are parties to a scheme devised by Corey to to fraud and siphon assets away from her brother's estate. Any assets that were owned by kay Richen's realty are now owned by Eric's estate. The deed to the house that Lisa Darden lives in was owned by kay Richin's realty. The Dardens recently changed the name on the deed from kay Richen's realty to Lisa Darden. The latest court documents claimed the property answer isn't valid and accuses Corey, Lisa, and Rooney of civil conspiracy. And you can buy these test strips, but in order to activate the test strips, it says that there are three ways to test your drugs. Dissolve all the drugs you plan on using in water by following the instructions. So you have to, like, you know, if you have cocaine, you have to you know, dissolve it in the water and then the purpose of having the cocaine if you're yeah, it's just nuts to me. Well, you can take a smaller portion of your drugs and use the strips. But that's scary. It's it's very it's very scary. So yeah, that's that's the story of Eric and Corey Richards. Rest in peace, Eric, because that just sucks. Who was thirty nine years old? He has three beautiful little kids. Sounds like a fabulous right, And yeah, it's just disgusting. Yeah, how much money do people need? I know, A horrible thing. Yeah, it's so.

I hope she's convicted, But it also seems like a lot of that is circumstantial. Yeah, but people get convicted on circumstantial cases all the time. True, was Corey having an affair on her. Most of the information I got was from court documents, but even in the court documents, there were some discrepancies, like he might have had a THHC gummy and a shot of alcohol the night of his death, and also on Valentine's Day, there were differing reports. Some said that he got sick from a sandwich she gave him, and some said that they had a romantic dinner at their house for the two of them and he was sick after that dinner. So okay, I know none of them change the outcome. It's just sometimes you'll hear different stories, and I just, yeah, well, a good job researching the case. Interesting case. And uh yeah a hater, a hater. She's horrible. And she's so young too. Yeah, I just I'll never understand that level of greed that causes you to kill someone just basically for money doesn't make any sense. And the parading around as a widow, and and oh, I'm so sad for my children, and you did this to your children, right, and then getting rid of all of his stuff and all the you know, photos and everything just that it's just the whole thing's horrible.
