Stacy Peterson, 23, was last seen on Sunday morning, October 28, 2007, in Bolingbrook, Illinois by her 53-year-old husband Drew Peterson. Drew, a police sergeant, was a 29-year veteran of the Bolingbrook Police Department. Stacy planned to meet her sister and a friend to paint a rental house. She never showed up; no one was able to locate her all day. Her husband claimed he’d talked to Stacy, his fourth wife, around 9 p.m. when she told him she was leaving him and their four children for another man. No one, not any of Stacy’s friends or family, believed this claim.

The investigation into Stacy’s disappearance soon led police to reconsider the mysterious death of Drew’s third wife, Kathleen Savio, who had died under suspicious circumstances in a bathtub three years earlier. In part one of two, we discuss Drew’s background, his four wives, and Kathleen’s untimely death in 2004.

00:00:00.520 --> 00:00:02.839
Hi, I'm Tina, and I'm
Rich. And if there's one thing we've

2
00:00:02.919 --> 00:00:05.759
learned in over twenty years of marriage, it's that some days you'll feel like

3
00:00:05.839 --> 00:00:09.919
killing your wife, and some days
you'll feel like killing your husband. Welcome

4
00:00:10.119 --> 00:00:28.800
to love, Mary Kill, Hey
Rich, Hey Tina. How are you?

5
00:00:28.960 --> 00:00:32.439
I'm doing pretty good. How are
you? I'm fabulous, fabulous.

6
00:00:32.520 --> 00:00:37.640
I'm really excited to be done with
the Peterson trilogy. Yeah, I'm sure

7
00:00:37.640 --> 00:00:42.799
there will be another Peterson that will
pop up eventually. I refused to research

8
00:00:42.840 --> 00:00:48.320
anywhere Peterson's. Never do another Peterson
case exactly. I'm almost pausitive. This

9
00:00:48.359 --> 00:00:51.159
will be two parts. No way
to just say it's going to commit to

10
00:00:51.200 --> 00:00:54.560
it two parts. Yes, sorry
for all the multi parters, but man,

11
00:00:54.600 --> 00:00:58.640
there's just so much information about these
men. One thing I will say

12
00:00:58.640 --> 00:01:03.359
for Drew is I am one hundred
positive that Drew is guilty. And I

13
00:01:03.399 --> 00:01:06.719
wouldn't say that in many cases,
all the Peterson's, all the Peterson's,

14
00:01:06.760 --> 00:01:08.920
I think he is the most guilty. I mean, I think that Scott

15
00:01:08.959 --> 00:01:12.680
is guilty too, for sure,
but I think that the evidence against Drew

16
00:01:14.079 --> 00:01:19.480
is just overwhelming. I think,
well, honestly, there is not a

17
00:01:19.480 --> 00:01:23.319
ton of no evidence against him.
But once you get to know Drew,

18
00:01:23.359 --> 00:01:26.120
and you got to know Drew,
you just don't doubt his built at all.

19
00:01:26.120 --> 00:01:30.400
I have no doubt. So huge, huge, huge news in the

20
00:01:30.439 --> 00:01:34.560
true crime community this week that shook
everyone. Yeah, the news is that

21
00:01:34.640 --> 00:01:40.200
the La Innocence Project has taken up
Scott's case. Shock, it was shocking,

22
00:01:40.319 --> 00:01:45.120
It was shocking. They made some
court filings where they are basically seeking

23
00:01:45.120 --> 00:01:49.079
additional DNA testing, additional discovery and
what was that. There was a third

24
00:01:49.079 --> 00:01:55.159
thing reviewing documents that have been under
seal. It's hundreds and hundreds of pages

25
00:01:55.200 --> 00:02:05.280
long. People are questioning the Los
Angeles Innocence projects credibility, but they are

26
00:02:05.599 --> 00:02:09.960
credible organizations. They're very reputable.
They're not the same as the Innocence Project,

27
00:02:09.960 --> 00:02:15.039
but they are affiliated with the Innocence
Project through the what's called the Innocence

28
00:02:15.080 --> 00:02:19.080
Network, which is a there's a
whole bunch of different seventy two different factions

29
00:02:19.120 --> 00:02:22.280
of it. Yeah, so it
is a Yeah, it's a reputable organization.

30
00:02:23.280 --> 00:02:25.159
There is some new evidence and we've
been hearing about this new evidence for

31
00:02:25.280 --> 00:02:30.800
years from Janey is it Janie Peterson, Yes, she's talked about this for

32
00:02:30.919 --> 00:02:35.199
years, so we don't really know
what this new evidence could be possibly related

33
00:02:35.280 --> 00:02:38.680
to the Medina burglary. We'll stand
the story, of course, and if

34
00:02:38.680 --> 00:02:42.840
there's enough information, we'll do a
little mini episode about it. Yeah,

35
00:02:42.879 --> 00:02:52.479
fascinating development. Will be interested to
see where it goes. I really dropped

36
00:02:52.479 --> 00:02:57.560
the ball because this case is in
Chicago, Chicago Land. Yeah, I'm

37
00:02:57.560 --> 00:03:00.639
from Chicago, born in Chicago,
wasn't raised in Chicago. I don't have

38
00:03:00.639 --> 00:03:05.919
a Chicago snack, and I'm really
I'm I'm really mad at myself that I

39
00:03:06.000 --> 00:03:08.120
didn't plan ahead, very disappointed in
you. No, I don't really know

40
00:03:08.159 --> 00:03:12.919
what Chicago snacks would be. I
know exactly what Chicago snack you would pick,

41
00:03:13.759 --> 00:03:16.439
Miss Fisher's. That's not that's a
Rockford snack. That's not a Chicago

42
00:03:16.599 --> 00:03:25.800
enough like a hot like hot dogs
or the Italian beef a beefizza. I

43
00:03:25.800 --> 00:03:28.919
don't know. We'll never know,
now, will we. All? Right?

44
00:03:29.120 --> 00:03:35.639
Well, my lovely, amazing,
sweet kind friend Kelly, who is

45
00:03:35.800 --> 00:03:38.479
a personal friend that I've known since
high school, believe it or not,

46
00:03:38.000 --> 00:03:42.599
sent me this beautiful box from nuts
dot com, and I'm just going to

47
00:03:42.639 --> 00:03:44.879
give that much shout out. And
that's just a snack that I brought you

48
00:03:44.919 --> 00:03:50.039
because this is the Supreme Box.
So thank you, Kelly. It really

49
00:03:50.120 --> 00:03:53.199
a lovely gift and huge box of
nuts and it's like a it was packaged

50
00:03:53.240 --> 00:03:58.120
really well. So the reason I'm
saying this is just if you not not

51
00:03:58.240 --> 00:04:02.439
sponsored, because they wouldn't sponsor,
but well maybe they would, but it's

52
00:04:02.439 --> 00:04:06.199
just beautifully packaged and I'm Kelly probably
picked out the things in it, but

53
00:04:06.280 --> 00:04:11.680
it's it's lovely. It has several
different kinds of nuts where big nut nut

54
00:04:11.719 --> 00:04:14.759
eaters. There's a little jar of
jelly. There's some dried apricots, some

55
00:04:15.960 --> 00:04:24.920
chocolate covered sunflower seeds, just chocolate
covered sunflower seeds. Yeah, some cheese

56
00:04:24.920 --> 00:04:28.600
sticks. Just it's a lovely gift. So all right, we're going to

57
00:04:28.680 --> 00:04:32.319
take a sample of everything. Sure, no, no, you can pick

58
00:04:32.360 --> 00:04:36.120
one. You can pick one thing
to open, all right. I don't

59
00:04:36.120 --> 00:04:40.920
know what I'm gonna pick. I'm
fascinated by the chocolate covered sunflower seeds.

60
00:04:41.120 --> 00:04:44.360
Oh really, I've never had those
before. Oh yeah, yeah it existed.

61
00:04:44.399 --> 00:04:46.680
Okay, I'll let you have those, all right, we'll be right

62
00:04:46.720 --> 00:04:55.800
back. What do you think I
really like the chocolate covered sunflower seeds?

63
00:04:55.839 --> 00:04:58.439
The Rich has a lot of salads, and on his sALS you always put

64
00:04:58.439 --> 00:05:02.879
sunflower seeds, but you have never
chocolate some flower seeds. Really though,

65
00:05:02.920 --> 00:05:06.560
you can hardly taste the sunflower seeds. It's kind of like just eating chocolate.

66
00:05:06.800 --> 00:05:11.120
They're really cute and colorful. I
had some cashews. I can never

67
00:05:11.160 --> 00:05:14.759
have enough cashews, and they were
fresh and delicious. And cashew is your

68
00:05:14.759 --> 00:05:18.160
favorite nut, I couldn't pick up. I really do genuinely love nuts.

69
00:05:18.639 --> 00:05:21.519
I have some unfavorite nuts, but
I don't think I have a favorite nuts.

70
00:05:21.519 --> 00:05:26.879
But we have cashews or maceadamia nuts
or almonds. They're all good.

71
00:05:27.319 --> 00:05:30.319
Nice. So that was a lot
of nut talk, And I'm curious how

72
00:05:30.399 --> 00:05:35.600
much of are my comments get edited
because you do the editing and I never

73
00:05:35.800 --> 00:05:41.360
less. I don't. I don't
edit you. I deserve to be edited.

74
00:05:41.920 --> 00:05:46.519
Absolutely. The world deserves to hear
the full glory of Tino. According

75
00:05:46.519 --> 00:05:49.120
to that one star review we got
this week, but we're not gonna We're

76
00:05:49.160 --> 00:05:51.360
not gonna dwell on then, we're
just gonna let it go, Let it

77
00:05:51.399 --> 00:05:55.800
go, Let it go. At
three pm today, there's a huge event

78
00:05:56.399 --> 00:06:01.720
that you're really excited about, Virtue
Crime podcast that is made up of ninety

79
00:06:01.879 --> 00:06:05.040
percent female listeners. We talk about
football way more than we should. You're

80
00:06:05.040 --> 00:06:06.680
the one who brought her up.
Do you want it? Well? I

81
00:06:06.720 --> 00:06:11.600
know, but I know you're so
excited about it. It's the Detroit Lions

82
00:06:11.600 --> 00:06:13.879
and they are in the playoffs.
So I just want you to give a

83
00:06:13.959 --> 00:06:17.720
predictions so by the time this airs
next Monday, you'll either be like a

84
00:06:17.759 --> 00:06:20.519
really smart guy or people will feel
lout of Well. I do want to

85
00:06:20.560 --> 00:06:25.639
remind every one of my prediction back
in like August, before the season started,

86
00:06:25.720 --> 00:06:29.240
I said the Lions were going to
make it to the NFC Championship game

87
00:06:29.279 --> 00:06:34.160
boiler he says this every August.
Okay, maybe, but they're so.

88
00:06:34.160 --> 00:06:38.720
They're playing the Tampa Bay Buccaneers this
afternoon. I predict the Lions will win.

89
00:06:38.920 --> 00:06:42.560
It will be thirty one to twenty
seven. Okay. And it's so

90
00:06:42.560 --> 00:06:45.639
sweet because we had several people like
that have messaged us, you know,

91
00:06:45.720 --> 00:06:50.399
Can Teleridge, congratulations and the U
of M National championship. So well,

92
00:06:50.439 --> 00:06:55.199
for anyone who knows anything about the
Lions football, they've been bad for as

93
00:06:55.240 --> 00:06:58.240
long as I've been alive, so
and that's a long time. Yeah,

94
00:06:58.240 --> 00:07:00.399
So I am not a Lions fan, but I am thrilled for you because

95
00:07:00.439 --> 00:07:06.040
I love you. All right.
On to Drew Peterson. Stacy Peterson,

96
00:07:06.120 --> 00:07:11.560
twenty three, was last seen on
Sunday morning, October twenty eighth, two

97
00:07:11.600 --> 00:07:14.639
thousand and seven, in bowling Brook, Illinois, by her fifty three year

98
00:07:14.680 --> 00:07:17.800
old husband, Drew Peterson. Drew, a police sergeant, was a twenty

99
00:07:17.879 --> 00:07:23.439
nine year veteran of the bowling Brook
Police Department. Stacy planned to meet her

100
00:07:23.519 --> 00:07:27.160
sister and a friend to paint a
rental house. She never showed up,

101
00:07:27.639 --> 00:07:30.680
and no one was able to locate
her all day. Her husband claimed he'd

102
00:07:30.759 --> 00:07:34.120
talk to Stacy, his fourth wife, around nine pm, when she told

103
00:07:34.160 --> 00:07:39.600
him she was leaving him and their
four children for another man. No one,

104
00:07:39.639 --> 00:07:43.879
not any of Stacy's friends or a
family, believed this claim. In

105
00:07:43.920 --> 00:07:47.480
the early morning hours of October twenty
ninth, twenty two year old Cassandra Cale's,

106
00:07:47.600 --> 00:07:53.600
Stacy's sister, walked into the Illinois
State Police Department in Lockport, Illinois

107
00:07:54.120 --> 00:07:58.600
to report her beloved sister as a
missing person. We're going to talk about

108
00:07:58.600 --> 00:08:03.079
bowling Brook, Illinois for a minute. Bowlingbrook, Illinois incorporated in nineteen sixty

109
00:08:03.120 --> 00:08:07.399
five. Is younger than its most
famous resident, Drew Peterson. Less than

110
00:08:07.399 --> 00:08:11.439
thirty miles southwest of Chicago, young
families were lured by advertisements that featured a

111
00:08:11.480 --> 00:08:18.759
handsome and distinguished British butler named mister
Dover to model homes in three similar subdivisions,

112
00:08:18.240 --> 00:08:22.600
the Westbury, Colonial Village and King's
Park subdivisions. I'm not sure I

113
00:08:22.600 --> 00:08:26.639
would be lured to a town just
because of some English butler on an advertisement,

114
00:08:26.839 --> 00:08:30.399
But okay, I think if you
lived in the Chicago area and you

115
00:08:30.439 --> 00:08:35.399
wanted affordable housing, you mister Dover
probably looked pretty good to you. These

116
00:08:35.440 --> 00:08:41.919
three subdivisions were referred to as Bowlingbrook
Subdivision in what was then Westbury, Illinois.

117
00:08:41.559 --> 00:08:46.720
People came via the Stevenson Expressway,
the new and improved Route sixty six

118
00:08:46.799 --> 00:08:50.919
had been renamed. It was the
long umbilical cord that stretched out from the

119
00:08:50.960 --> 00:08:56.000
city of Chicago to the far west
farmlands. The first model homes went up

120
00:08:56.039 --> 00:09:00.559
on Rockland Court off Route fifty three, just north of the current plus Pheasant

121
00:09:00.639 --> 00:09:05.279
Hill shopping center. For as little
as a two hundred dollars down payment,

122
00:09:05.399 --> 00:09:09.279
you could purchase a ten thousand dollars
home. But for that price. You

123
00:09:09.360 --> 00:09:13.000
received little more than an unfinished box
on an unpaved street, bare of many

124
00:09:13.039 --> 00:09:20.399
creature comforts like carpet, flooring or
landscaping. But you are a homeowner today.

125
00:09:20.440 --> 00:09:24.200
Nearly seventy five thousand people live in
bowling Brook. Bowling Brook borders the

126
00:09:24.240 --> 00:09:31.919
communities of Woodridge, Romeoville, Plainfield, Naperville, and Darien. It's relatively

127
00:09:31.960 --> 00:09:37.639
inexpensive housing and its proximity to Chicago
make it an increasingly popular place to call

128
00:09:37.679 --> 00:09:41.279
home. Bowling Brook is a safe
place to live, with a crime rate

129
00:09:41.399 --> 00:09:46.200
sixty percent lower than the national average. That is, unless you are romantically

130
00:09:46.240 --> 00:09:50.120
linked to Drew Peterson. Have you
ever been to bowling Brook? You know,

131
00:09:50.159 --> 00:09:52.919
I have a lot of family in
Illinois and cousins and things, but

132
00:09:52.960 --> 00:09:58.399
I don't think anyone in bowling Brook. But it's we considered moving to Naperville

133
00:09:58.480 --> 00:10:03.360
years ago, years and years ago. And it's a great area. Yeah,

134
00:10:03.480 --> 00:10:09.440
great location near Chicago. Yep,
very nice. Drew Walter Peterson was

135
00:10:09.440 --> 00:10:13.120
born on January fifth, nineteen fifty
four, in bowling Brook, Illinois,

136
00:10:13.679 --> 00:10:18.879
the oldest of three children. So
another horrible Capricorn. I'm a Capricorn.

137
00:10:18.960 --> 00:10:24.320
It just seems like there's an abundant
amount of capricorns. I don't know.

138
00:10:24.000 --> 00:10:28.840
His father, a former marine,
was an abusive alcoholic. His mother was

139
00:10:28.879 --> 00:10:33.279
a meticulous housekeeper, a standard Drew's
four wives would later fall short of.

140
00:10:33.679 --> 00:10:37.039
According to him, Drew's father was
hard on him. He had high expectations

141
00:10:37.039 --> 00:10:41.120
for him, and high school,
Drew was on the football team. He

142
00:10:41.240 --> 00:10:45.320
frequently had to run laps for mouthing
off to his coaches, wearing all of

143
00:10:45.360 --> 00:10:48.919
his cumbersome football gear. He became
so good at running that he joined the

144
00:10:48.919 --> 00:10:54.519
cross country team instead. He graduated
from Willowbrook High School in nineteen seventy four,

145
00:10:54.639 --> 00:10:58.799
then joined the Army, where he
became a member of the Elite Honor

146
00:10:58.840 --> 00:11:03.000
Guard. After two years in the
Army, Drew joined the bowling Brook Police

147
00:11:03.000 --> 00:11:07.679
Department. He was soon promoted to
work as an undercover narcotics officer for multiple

148
00:11:07.720 --> 00:11:13.240
jurisdictions with the Metropolitan Area Narcotics Squad. I don't have this in here,

149
00:11:13.320 --> 00:11:16.279
but for a while he worked at
it must have been when he was in

150
00:11:16.320 --> 00:11:22.360
the Army he worked as a guard
at the White House. Interesting. Drew

151
00:11:22.399 --> 00:11:26.360
married his high school sweetheart, Carol
Brown, in nineteen seventy four. He

152
00:11:26.440 --> 00:11:30.840
was twenty. She was seventeen seventeen. That's young. Yeah, she was

153
00:11:30.879 --> 00:11:35.159
young. They had two sons together, Stephen and Eric. They divorced in

154
00:11:35.240 --> 00:11:39.600
nineteen eighty after six years of marriage
when she discovered that Drew was having an

155
00:11:39.639 --> 00:11:43.759
affair. This would not be Drew's
only affair. No, hard to believe,

156
00:11:45.000 --> 00:11:48.320
well, Drew said, quote,
I take full responsibility for that.

157
00:11:48.440 --> 00:11:52.600
Carol was a good woman. Unquote. Vicki Connolly became Drew's second wife in

158
00:11:52.679 --> 00:11:56.159
nineteen eighty two. They met at
a bar and married six months later.

159
00:11:56.960 --> 00:12:01.559
She was five years younger than Drew. He had a daughter from a previous

160
00:12:01.600 --> 00:12:05.960
relationship. Vicky and Drew didn't have
any children together. Drew was abusive to

161
00:12:07.039 --> 00:12:11.519
Vicki and frequently cheated on her.
He had threatened to kill her and promised

162
00:12:11.519 --> 00:12:16.240
that everyone would believe her death was
an accident. Vicky recalled waking up one

163
00:12:16.320 --> 00:12:22.159
night Withdrew menacingly standing over her when
Vicky was in a near fatal car accident.

164
00:12:22.240 --> 00:12:26.039
She believed that Drew tampered with the
brakes on her car. They were

165
00:12:26.080 --> 00:12:30.799
married for nine years, and she
told the Chicago Tribune quote, when it

166
00:12:30.879 --> 00:12:33.480
was good, it was wonderful,
It was great, but when it was

167
00:12:33.600 --> 00:12:37.600
bad, it was really bad.
Unquote. Vicky said that Drew played mind

168
00:12:37.679 --> 00:12:41.279
games and bugged their home. He
was the one having an affair, but

169
00:12:41.360 --> 00:12:48.399
became increasingly suspicious and controlling of her. Vicky was never unfaithful. Drew said

170
00:12:48.440 --> 00:12:52.919
that Vicky was warm and loving before
the marriage fell apart. It's nice that

171
00:12:52.960 --> 00:12:56.360
he can say nice things about his
wife. I guess, yeah, I'm

172
00:12:56.399 --> 00:13:01.159
already starting. I already hate this
guy. Between his first and second marriages,

173
00:13:01.279 --> 00:13:05.759
Drew was engaged to another woman,
twenty year old Kyle Peiriri. They

174
00:13:05.759 --> 00:13:11.840
were engaged for four months before she
ended the engagement years later. She accused

175
00:13:11.919 --> 00:13:15.600
him of stalking her and using his
authority as a police officer to make her

176
00:13:15.639 --> 00:13:20.000
life difficult. He stalked her while
he was working, pulled her over,

177
00:13:20.240 --> 00:13:24.919
and ticketed her several times for benign
offenses such as bald tires. Oh that's

178
00:13:24.919 --> 00:13:30.080
horrible. It is horrible, and
it's terrifying. Like if you're dating a

179
00:13:30.080 --> 00:13:33.600
police officer and it goes bad and
they want to get revenge or they want

180
00:13:35.000 --> 00:13:37.679
like it's that's scary, right.
They have a lot of power and they

181
00:13:37.720 --> 00:13:43.559
can make your life miserable and there
are several examples of Drew abusing his authority

182
00:13:43.559 --> 00:13:48.840
as a police officer. Kathleen Savio
was the youngest of four children born to

183
00:13:48.039 --> 00:13:54.080
Henry and Mary Savio. Henry was
an HVAC technician. The Savio kids grew

184
00:13:54.159 --> 00:13:58.559
up in Chicago's Little Italy neighborhood.
Henry and Marry divorced when Kitty, as

185
00:13:58.559 --> 00:14:03.399
her family called her, was two. When Mary remarried, the family moved

186
00:14:03.399 --> 00:14:07.639
to Melrose Park, Illinois. Kitty's
new stepfather didn't have a steady job,

187
00:14:07.720 --> 00:14:11.879
and Henry failed to pay child support, which caused the money to be tight

188
00:14:11.919 --> 00:14:16.480
for the family. When Kathleen was
seventeen, she earned her ged and moved

189
00:14:16.480 --> 00:14:20.720
out of the house. She began
work as a bookkeeper while attending community college

190
00:14:22.320 --> 00:14:26.360
working towards a degree in accounting.
Kathleen ended a five year relationship with an

191
00:14:26.360 --> 00:14:30.679
accountant that she had been dating when
she didn't think it was going anywhere,

192
00:14:31.240 --> 00:14:35.600
and she agreed to go out on
a blind date with Drew Peterson. Kathleen

193
00:14:35.679 --> 00:14:39.840
was in her late twenties and wanted
to get married and start her own family.

194
00:14:39.440 --> 00:14:43.840
She quickly fell for Drew, but
she didn't know that he was still

195
00:14:43.879 --> 00:14:46.240
married to his second wife, Vicki. When she found out, she was

196
00:14:46.320 --> 00:14:50.840
furious. Drew told her that Vicky
wasn't a good wife, she was a

197
00:14:50.919 --> 00:14:54.799
drug addict, and they were getting
divorced. Drew proposed to Kathleen six months

198
00:14:54.799 --> 00:14:58.600
after their first date. Are you
seeing a pattern here? A little bit

199
00:14:58.639 --> 00:15:01.360
of a pattern? Yet? They
were married on May third, nineteen ninety

200
00:15:01.360 --> 00:15:05.799
two, a few months after his
divorce from Vickie was finalized. Kathleen's sisters

201
00:15:05.840 --> 00:15:11.120
said, quote, he seemed wonderful. He was mister Romance, the nice,

202
00:15:11.200 --> 00:15:15.720
upstanding young cop. In the beginning
their marriage was great. Kathleen had

203
00:15:15.759 --> 00:15:20.480
things like she never had before,
a beautiful home, fur coats, everything.

204
00:15:20.759 --> 00:15:24.279
She felt like a princess. They
quickly had two sons together nineteen months

205
00:15:24.279 --> 00:15:30.080
apart, Thomas and Christopher. Kathleen
was a wonderful, nurturing mother, and

206
00:15:30.120 --> 00:15:33.279
she was a beloved member of her
family. But she was also known to

207
00:15:33.320 --> 00:15:37.519
be strong, willed, feisty,
and a fighter. Was there an age

208
00:15:37.519 --> 00:15:43.200
difference between Drew and Kathleen ten years
ago. I'm sensing a pattern. Yeah,

209
00:15:43.200 --> 00:15:48.480
definitely, he had some patterns.
Drew soon became abusive physically and verbally.

210
00:15:48.840 --> 00:15:54.240
He called Kathleen fad and said she
looked like a dog. He shoved

211
00:15:54.240 --> 00:15:56.960
and pushed her once down the stairs. Her injuries were severe enough to land

212
00:15:58.000 --> 00:16:03.360
her in the er she was and
bruises. So just not a nice guy.

213
00:16:03.519 --> 00:16:07.320
No, it's another pattern with him
to the abuse, I guess.

214
00:16:07.399 --> 00:16:11.919
And yeah, I think the abuse
Scott increasingly worse is he got older.

215
00:16:12.600 --> 00:16:17.440
One month, Kathleen noticed that Drew's
cell phone bill had blown up. She

216
00:16:17.519 --> 00:16:21.639
took a closer look and called the
number that most frequently appeared. A young

217
00:16:21.679 --> 00:16:25.840
woman named Heather answered. Kathleen asked
her to come over to the house so

218
00:16:26.039 --> 00:16:30.279
that she could confront her other to
stop the affair with Drew. After her

219
00:16:30.279 --> 00:16:34.639
talk with Kathleen, so Kathleen was
like a brave woman. She wasn't afraid

220
00:16:34.639 --> 00:16:38.080
to confront things in her life.
In two thousand and one, Drew began

221
00:16:38.120 --> 00:16:44.320
a relationship with sixteen year old Stacy
Kalees. He brought her to his home

222
00:16:44.360 --> 00:16:48.759
to have sex with her while his
family supped upstairs. Kathleen received an anonymous

223
00:16:48.840 --> 00:16:53.000
letter from a bowling Brook City employee
alerting her to the affair. In early

224
00:16:53.039 --> 00:16:57.399
two thousand and two. There are
conflicting reports about Stacy's age when she and

225
00:16:57.519 --> 00:17:03.240
Drew started seeing each other. But
Cassandra, Stacy's sister and biggest advocate,

226
00:17:03.359 --> 00:17:07.880
is adamant that she was sixteen when
they started seeing each other. I don't

227
00:17:07.920 --> 00:17:11.759
know if their relationship was physical at
that point, but definitely by the time

228
00:17:11.200 --> 00:17:15.759
she was seventeen the relationship became physical. And how old was Drew at this

229
00:17:15.839 --> 00:17:19.200
point? He's thirty years older.
Oh my goodness, yeah, he was

230
00:17:19.240 --> 00:17:23.079
forty seven when they started dating.
Here's the letter that Kathleen received in the

231
00:17:23.079 --> 00:17:27.079
mail. Kathy, this letter is
being sent to you for your benefit.

232
00:17:27.400 --> 00:17:30.759
At this point in time, you
are probably aware that your husband is having

233
00:17:30.799 --> 00:17:36.119
an affair. The girl's name and
she is just that a girl is Stacy

234
00:17:36.200 --> 00:17:41.279
Yelton, which isn't her name?
Her name is Stacy Cale's. She was

235
00:17:41.279 --> 00:17:45.200
born July seventeenth, nineteen eighty four
and resides at five eleven Preston, Apartment

236
00:17:45.319 --> 00:17:49.519
one twenty nine in Bowling Brook.
You may already have all of this information,

237
00:17:49.680 --> 00:17:55.119
but if not, you will need
it to prevent any further embarrassment and

238
00:17:55.200 --> 00:17:57.920
disgrace to you and your family.
This affair has been going on for several

239
00:17:57.960 --> 00:18:03.119
months and several people have been aware
of this situation. Because of her age

240
00:18:03.240 --> 00:18:06.960
seventeen and the fact that she is
an employee of the village, and because

241
00:18:06.960 --> 00:18:10.599
of Drew's age and his occupation,
he holds a position of authority over her.

242
00:18:11.400 --> 00:18:17.200
Hw could be charged criminally for his
intimate involvement with this minor. Village

243
00:18:17.200 --> 00:18:21.559
officials and everyone at the police department
have complete knowledge of this situation. It

244
00:18:21.599 --> 00:18:26.680
has been an ongoing joke within the
department. The issue has been discussed and

245
00:18:26.720 --> 00:18:32.160
has been decided to conceal his behavior
to protect the village and Drew because of

246
00:18:32.200 --> 00:18:37.079
his political alliances with Roger Clark and
Ken Each they are protecting themselves from the

247
00:18:37.119 --> 00:18:41.319
embarrassment and the liability. The real
victims being you and your family should be

248
00:18:41.359 --> 00:18:45.839
the ones being protected from the embarrassment. This is not the first time in

249
00:18:45.880 --> 00:18:52.039
the past year that Drew's immoral and
unethical behavior has been concealed. This past

250
00:18:52.039 --> 00:18:56.759
summer, Drew allowed the beating of
an arrestee who is handcuffed and defenseless.

251
00:18:56.640 --> 00:19:03.359
The past fall, Drew was suspected
to have planted narcotics cocaine on two separate

252
00:19:03.440 --> 00:19:07.960
drug raids to obtain a substantial arrest
to overshadow his recent behavior and now his

253
00:19:08.000 --> 00:19:14.119
illegal intimate relationship with a minor.
Drew has been willing to sacrifice his integrity

254
00:19:14.200 --> 00:19:18.359
for his personal gain, with total
disregard that his actions will embarrass and disrespect

255
00:19:18.400 --> 00:19:23.920
his wife and children. Beware who
you talk to within the village administration and

256
00:19:25.000 --> 00:19:30.359
within the police department. Protect yourself
and your family. Wow, isn't that

257
00:19:30.400 --> 00:19:33.599
crazy? I have questions? So, and Kathleen has some notes scrawled on

258
00:19:33.640 --> 00:19:37.440
the bottom of this letter, and
it says letters sent to my home in

259
00:19:37.480 --> 00:19:44.039
October two thousand and one warning me
of Drew's illegal actions and embarrassment to wife

260
00:19:44.079 --> 00:19:48.720
and kids. Drew's credibility isn't there
anymore, and now he dictates a seventeen

261
00:19:48.799 --> 00:19:56.559
year old to do his dirty work. That's astonishing to the receive a letter.

262
00:19:56.599 --> 00:19:57.440
Oh, I know, I can't
imagine. And we don't know who

263
00:19:57.480 --> 00:20:02.200
wrote the letter. It was anonymous. I mean it was a city employee,

264
00:20:02.440 --> 00:20:06.039
right, someone. And Kathleen did
not She was not aware of the

265
00:20:06.079 --> 00:20:08.599
affair before this letter. Like that
was her how she found out? I

266
00:20:08.640 --> 00:20:12.200
believe. So. Yeah, yeah, Kathleen was devastated. She kicked Drew

267
00:20:12.240 --> 00:20:15.720
out of the house and immediately took
steps to end the marriage, and the

268
00:20:15.720 --> 00:20:19.359
spring, Drew and Stacey moved in
together into a new house that he purchased

269
00:20:19.400 --> 00:20:22.960
blocks away from the home he had
shared with Kathleen and his sons, so

270
00:20:23.039 --> 00:20:27.160
in the same subdivision. Drew claimed
he wanted to be close to his children,

271
00:20:27.200 --> 00:20:32.559
but it seemed more likely that he
was trying to antagonize Kathleen. Drew

272
00:20:32.599 --> 00:20:36.799
and Stacy taunted Kathleen, rollerblading past
her house and giving her the finger.

273
00:20:37.440 --> 00:20:41.000
Stacey and Drew liked the attention their
age difference attracted. They would kiss passionately

274
00:20:41.039 --> 00:20:44.960
in public, and she would pretend
he was buying liquor for her and her

275
00:20:44.960 --> 00:20:49.680
friends and call him Daddy. I
mean, Stacy's seventeen. Bit of a

276
00:20:49.720 --> 00:20:52.920
break. Yeah, definitely give Stacy
a break because she's under his influence.

277
00:20:53.079 --> 00:20:56.519
And we're going to learn more about
Stacy in a few minutes, but she's

278
00:20:56.599 --> 00:21:02.119
had a pretty hard upbringing. On
occasions Stacy and Drew were dropping the boys

279
00:21:02.119 --> 00:21:06.960
off at Kathleen's house after a weekend
visit, Stacy held Kathleen's video camera in

280
00:21:07.000 --> 00:21:11.000
her hand, filming her. Kathleen
lunged at the camera and Stacy yelled,

281
00:21:11.079 --> 00:21:15.279
you hit me, Drew put Kathleen
in a headlock and arrested her. She

282
00:21:15.400 --> 00:21:19.720
was charged with battery. The matter
was later dismissed and expunged from the record,

283
00:21:21.119 --> 00:21:26.759
so another example of Drew abusing his
authority. The police were called eighteen

284
00:21:26.799 --> 00:21:32.160
times for domestic disturbances during the contentious
divorce. Kathleen called about twelve times,

285
00:21:32.160 --> 00:21:37.359
and Drew or Stacy about six.
Kathleen filed an order of protection against Drew

286
00:21:37.519 --> 00:21:41.799
on March eleventh, two thousand and
two, alleging physical abuse, harassment,

287
00:21:41.880 --> 00:21:45.599
and interference with her physical liberty.
Drew told her he would burn the house

288
00:21:45.640 --> 00:21:49.039
down just to shut her up.
He threatened to kill her many times,

289
00:21:51.039 --> 00:21:53.559
she wrote into the petition to the
court, quote, several times he has

290
00:21:53.599 --> 00:21:57.640
restrained me, held me down,
knocked me into walls, come after me

291
00:21:57.720 --> 00:22:02.599
with a poker, ripped my necklace
off, left marks on my body,

292
00:22:02.720 --> 00:22:07.400
threatened to steal the children and desert
me. The restraining order was granted,

293
00:22:07.480 --> 00:22:11.359
but Kathleen later dropped it because Drew
would otherwise not have been able to work

294
00:22:11.880 --> 00:22:17.200
because he wouldn't be able to carry
a gun, and she and the boys

295
00:22:17.200 --> 00:22:21.799
were still depending on Drew's income as
a police officer and may. Kathleen was

296
00:22:21.920 --> 00:22:26.319
arrested for pushing, spitting, and
punching Drew when he pressed charges after one

297
00:22:26.359 --> 00:22:32.759
of their fights, and Kathleen also
punched Stacy. I think Kathleen was just

298
00:22:33.039 --> 00:22:37.759
she was embarrassed and overall with emotion, and she was really struggling with the

299
00:22:37.839 --> 00:22:41.680
situation. Sounds like a horrible situation
her. I mean, her husband is

300
00:22:41.759 --> 00:22:45.160
dating a child right yeah, and
living right in the neighborhood and taunting her.

301
00:22:45.799 --> 00:22:48.680
Everyone in the neighbors and everyone is
seeing this in front of them.

302
00:22:48.799 --> 00:22:53.720
It's just it's just he's disgusting.
On July fifth, two thousand and two,

303
00:22:53.839 --> 00:22:57.079
Drew broke into Kathleen's house and held
her at knife point for hours,

304
00:22:57.119 --> 00:23:02.039
threatening to kill her while she sat
on the stairs. As he held a

305
00:23:02.119 --> 00:23:04.480
knife to her throat, he told
her that he would kill her right there,

306
00:23:04.519 --> 00:23:08.839
but it would be too bloody.
Wow. So Shrew's account of this

307
00:23:10.039 --> 00:23:11.839
that event, he said, Oh, she was trying to seduce me and

308
00:23:11.880 --> 00:23:17.440
we were just talking on the stairs, and she was showing me her breast

309
00:23:17.640 --> 00:23:21.680
and she was trying to have kissed
me and have sex with me. So

310
00:23:21.759 --> 00:23:26.000
that does not sound like the same, very different accounts. Yeah, November

311
00:23:26.079 --> 00:23:30.119
fourteenth, two thousand and two,
Kathleen wrote a letter to the Assistant States

312
00:23:30.119 --> 00:23:34.240
Attorney, Elizabeth Fragail, asking for
help. This is kind of long,

313
00:23:34.319 --> 00:23:38.680
but I think it just shows Kathleen
what she was struggling with and her state

314
00:23:38.720 --> 00:23:42.519
of mind. And whenever we read
quotes, we have to read them as

315
00:23:42.559 --> 00:23:49.119
they are, and Kathleen's writing here
is there's some grammatical errors, but we

316
00:23:49.240 --> 00:23:52.480
need to read it as she wrote
it. Do you want to read it?

317
00:23:53.200 --> 00:23:57.200
Sure, Miss Fragail. On three
different occasions, I have tried to

318
00:23:57.240 --> 00:24:00.960
reach you over the phone regarding charge
as I filed against Drew Peterson on the

319
00:24:02.039 --> 00:24:06.119
date of July fifth, two thousand
and two. Note, I did contact

320
00:24:06.119 --> 00:24:11.000
the police department and talked to the
Assistant Chief, Mike Kelcagno, in reference

321
00:24:11.000 --> 00:24:15.559
to Drew's break in that same weekend. I then filed a report in regards

322
00:24:15.640 --> 00:24:19.759
to my safety from Drew by two
officer that arrived at my residence three nine

323
00:24:19.839 --> 00:24:25.039
two Pheasant Chase, Bowlingbrook, Illinois. When I found out mister Peterson was

324
00:24:25.079 --> 00:24:27.440
having an affair with a miner at
the police department, he began to get

325
00:24:27.559 --> 00:24:32.599
very violent by striking me with his
hand and chasing me through the house with

326
00:24:32.640 --> 00:24:36.160
a police stick. At that time
on record, I had to get an

327
00:24:36.240 --> 00:24:40.319
order of protection from him. There
have been several times throughout my marriage with

328
00:24:40.359 --> 00:24:44.200
this man where I ended up at
the emergency room in bowling Brook for injuries,

329
00:24:44.759 --> 00:24:47.519
and I have reported this, only
to have the police leave my home

330
00:24:47.559 --> 00:24:52.519
without filing any reports. On July
fifth, mister Peterson got into my home

331
00:24:52.559 --> 00:24:56.240
with a garage door opener he programmed
for himself while I was out of town

332
00:24:56.319 --> 00:25:00.160
with my sons. I was unaware
of his presence and was very, very

333
00:25:00.160 --> 00:25:03.599
afraid for my life. This man
popped out from our living room well while

334
00:25:03.640 --> 00:25:08.079
I was walking downstairs with a basket
of laundry. I was shocked and dropped

335
00:25:08.119 --> 00:25:11.799
all the clothes and stood there asking
him to get out. Drew was in

336
00:25:11.960 --> 00:25:17.839
uniform, swat uniform with his police
radio in his ear. He yelled for

337
00:25:17.920 --> 00:25:21.240
me to sit down and be quiet. I refused, and he pushed me

338
00:25:21.359 --> 00:25:23.799
on the stairs. He told me
to move down to the third step and

339
00:25:23.839 --> 00:25:27.880
not to move or speak. He
was very angry that in our divorce the

340
00:25:27.960 --> 00:25:32.559
judge ruled he would have to pay
me child support. He told me he

341
00:25:32.599 --> 00:25:34.880
didn't want to pay me anything.
He left my boys eight and nine,

342
00:25:36.319 --> 00:25:40.160
and I with many bills up to
two thousand dollars and with an eleven thousand

343
00:25:40.240 --> 00:25:44.519
dollar income tax bill as well as
sixty eight hundred dollar property tax bill for

344
00:25:44.640 --> 00:25:48.440
us to pay. Needless to say, we are without money or any credit.

345
00:25:48.160 --> 00:25:52.079
He kept me in a position for
a very long length of time while

346
00:25:52.079 --> 00:25:55.640
trying to convince me how horrible I
am and I just need to die.

347
00:25:56.240 --> 00:25:59.680
He asked me several times if I
was afraid. I started to panic.

348
00:26:00.400 --> 00:26:03.680
He pulled out his knife that he
kept around his leg and brought it to

349
00:26:03.759 --> 00:26:07.720
my neck. I thought I'd never
see my boys again. I just told

350
00:26:07.759 --> 00:26:10.839
him to end this craziness, and
he, for some reason pulled back.

351
00:26:11.519 --> 00:26:14.519
I didn't tell the police because I
know they can't protect me from him.

352
00:26:15.039 --> 00:26:18.359
I know he will be back.
He's now attempting to try to make me

353
00:26:18.480 --> 00:26:22.880
look like the bad guy with untrue
charges of battery against him and his seventeen

354
00:26:22.960 --> 00:26:26.039
year old girlfriend. The sick thing
is I really think they're enjoying this.

355
00:26:26.880 --> 00:26:30.720
Over the summer, they went out
of their way to rollerblade right in front

356
00:26:30.720 --> 00:26:33.319
of my home, drive by and
stop for long lengths of time in front

357
00:26:33.319 --> 00:26:38.960
of the house, childish things like
his girl his girlfriend flipping me off if

358
00:26:38.960 --> 00:26:42.839
I was out in front with the
kids while driving by. At the present

359
00:26:42.839 --> 00:26:47.160
time, my children have been in
a program at school called Rainbows, in

360
00:26:47.200 --> 00:26:51.920
efforts to repair some of the damage
Drew and his girlfriend have created, one

361
00:26:51.960 --> 00:26:55.519
of which Drew falsely arrested me in
front of my children, with my face

362
00:26:55.559 --> 00:26:57.599
in the grass and calling me a
criminal for hitting his girl friend, which

363
00:26:57.640 --> 00:27:03.200
didn't happen. Instead, she called
me a bunch of inappropriate names in front

364
00:27:03.200 --> 00:27:07.720
of my children, so I felt
it was necessary to get them back in

365
00:27:07.759 --> 00:27:11.240
the house away from this. When
I ran to the truck, it being

366
00:27:11.359 --> 00:27:15.720
very high up, I noticed Stacy, his girlfriend, taping me with the

367
00:27:15.720 --> 00:27:18.799
stolen camera Drew took from our home. I attempted to take the camera and

368
00:27:18.880 --> 00:27:22.319
my next goal was to return to
my home with my children, but I

369
00:27:22.400 --> 00:27:26.000
was thrown to the ground and treated
like an outlaw and booked and arrested for

370
00:27:26.039 --> 00:27:30.200
no reason. My wrist was sprained
when I was being thrown to the ground

371
00:27:30.279 --> 00:27:33.240
and held down by Drew, who
was not on duty at the time.

372
00:27:34.079 --> 00:27:37.680
While this was happening, my children
were being held against their will by Stacy

373
00:27:38.319 --> 00:27:42.240
while she told them to sit down
and be quiet. The letter goes on

374
00:27:42.359 --> 00:27:47.200
for quite a bit longer where she
details other incidents that happened, but I'm

375
00:27:47.200 --> 00:27:51.440
going to skip past and go to
the end, to the end here where

376
00:27:51.440 --> 00:27:55.599
she says he knows how to manipulate
the system and his next step is to

377
00:27:55.599 --> 00:27:59.680
take my children away or kill me
instead. I really would like to know

378
00:27:59.759 --> 00:28:03.599
why this man wasn't charged with this
unlawful entry and attempt on my life.

379
00:28:03.160 --> 00:28:07.400
I'm willing to take any test you
want me to take to prove my innocence

380
00:28:07.440 --> 00:28:11.240
of charges against me, and also
any lie detector test on my statement I

381
00:28:11.319 --> 00:28:15.640
filed against him. I really feel
Drew is a loose cannon. He's out

382
00:28:15.640 --> 00:28:19.759
on the streets of bowling Brook patrolling
and just taking the law into his own

383
00:28:19.799 --> 00:28:23.680
hands. I haven't received any help
from the police here in bowling Brook and

384
00:28:23.799 --> 00:28:29.039
asking for your help now before it's
too late. I really hope by filing

385
00:28:29.039 --> 00:28:33.240
this charge it might stop him from
trying to hurt us. Sincerely, Kathleen

386
00:28:33.279 --> 00:28:38.119
Peterson. Nothing came of this letter, which is so sad and hard it

387
00:28:38.319 --> 00:28:41.920
is. It's really hard to read
it just because you can just feel her,

388
00:28:42.359 --> 00:28:48.680
the fear that she has in this
situation and pain m HM. Drew

389
00:28:48.759 --> 00:28:52.000
and Kathleen bifurcated their divorce, which
means it was divided into two parts.

390
00:28:52.160 --> 00:28:59.359
Marital status and everything else such as
custody agreements and separation of assets would all

391
00:28:59.400 --> 00:29:03.119
be handled up. Really, their
marriage was dissolved by the fall of two

392
00:29:03.160 --> 00:29:06.880
thousand and two, but the rest
of the legal issues were pending, and

393
00:29:06.920 --> 00:29:12.160
the intent of bifurcating their divorce was
that Drew could sooner marry Stacey. The

394
00:29:12.200 --> 00:29:15.759
court date for the second half of
Drew and Kathleen's divorce was set for the

395
00:29:15.799 --> 00:29:21.759
first week in March. Kathleen would
likely be given half of everything. Drew

396
00:29:21.920 --> 00:29:26.160
was furious, as you can imagine, about his assets being split in half.

397
00:29:26.039 --> 00:29:29.880
On March first, two thousand and
four, after a weekend with Tom

398
00:29:29.880 --> 00:29:33.920
and Chris, Drew dropped them off
at their mother's house. When Kathleen didn't

399
00:29:33.920 --> 00:29:37.079
open the door, Drew brought the
boys back to his house for another night.

400
00:29:37.759 --> 00:29:41.319
It was unusual for Kathleen to not
be home with the time of a

401
00:29:41.319 --> 00:29:45.559
schedule drop off. She had called
the police on multiple occasions when Drew was

402
00:29:45.920 --> 00:29:48.759
late dropping the boys off. The
next night, he attempted to drop them

403
00:29:48.799 --> 00:29:53.079
off again, dressed in his uniform. Again, Kathleen didn't answer the door.

404
00:29:53.640 --> 00:29:59.559
Drew summoned two neighbors for help.
Because of his acrimonious relationship with Kathleen,

405
00:29:59.680 --> 00:30:03.200
he was hesitant to enter the house
unassisted. Drew waded in the foyer

406
00:30:03.240 --> 00:30:07.000
while the neighbors searched the house for
Kathleen. After a locksmith was called to

407
00:30:07.000 --> 00:30:12.640
open the door, the neighbors found
Kathleen forty naked and dead in the bathtub

408
00:30:12.720 --> 00:30:17.160
with a one inch bloody gash to
the back of her head. She was

409
00:30:17.519 --> 00:30:21.279
face down in the tub with her
knees drawn up underneath her, and her

410
00:30:21.319 --> 00:30:25.079
feet were pressed against the back of
the tub. It looked like she was

411
00:30:25.119 --> 00:30:26.720
in Child's post. Do you know
what Child's post? It's a yoga pose

412
00:30:26.880 --> 00:30:30.200
I do. I do Child's Post
all the time. I asked you yesterday,

413
00:30:30.720 --> 00:30:34.480
child. I didn't know what it
was, but I googled it and

414
00:30:34.519 --> 00:30:37.519
I was like, oh, yes, I do this all the time because

415
00:30:37.519 --> 00:30:41.359
of my back issues and help Child's
postes. It's a good post. But

416
00:30:41.480 --> 00:30:45.000
it was really odd that that's how
her body was positioned in the tub.

417
00:30:45.079 --> 00:30:48.720
The bathtub was empty, but Kathleen's
hair was wet, I think part of

418
00:30:49.200 --> 00:30:55.000
partly wet from with water but also
with coagulated blood, and her fingers were

419
00:30:55.039 --> 00:30:59.240
wrinkled. Blood was also at the
bottom of the tub, which is strange

420
00:30:59.279 --> 00:31:00.960
because if there had been water in
the tub, you would think that the

421
00:31:02.000 --> 00:31:07.880
blood would have washed away. So
strange. The scene just felt a little

422
00:31:07.920 --> 00:31:12.279
suspicious. There was no towel,
bath matt or robe near the tub,

423
00:31:12.400 --> 00:31:18.079
and the shampoo bottles were all kind
of lined up around the tub, like

424
00:31:18.200 --> 00:31:21.720
nothing really looked askew, and you
would think if there, if she fell

425
00:31:22.240 --> 00:31:27.319
hit her head, she would have
grabbed for something. And oddly, like

426
00:31:27.359 --> 00:31:32.759
I said, there was no towel
or anything, but later, like some

427
00:31:32.799 --> 00:31:34.599
people that arrived at the scene said
there was no towel. But then in

428
00:31:34.640 --> 00:31:38.680
the crime scene photos there was a
towel that was fold in a neatly placed.

429
00:31:38.680 --> 00:31:41.400
I showed you the photo and the
towel was like right by the faucet,

430
00:31:41.400 --> 00:31:45.920
which seemed like you wouldn't put the
towel right by the faucet. So

431
00:31:45.000 --> 00:31:49.440
I don't know if the scene could
have been manipulated or not. The bowling

432
00:31:49.440 --> 00:31:53.480
Brook Police Department were called and they
were all too familiar with the troubles between

433
00:31:53.640 --> 00:31:59.279
Drew and Kathleen because Drew was a
police officer. It was a delicate situation

434
00:31:59.400 --> 00:32:04.039
and the Bowling Police Department decided it
would be prudent to hand the case over

435
00:32:04.079 --> 00:32:07.839
to the Illinois State Police. The
police quickly assessed the situation and assumed that

436
00:32:07.920 --> 00:32:13.519
Kathleen had slipped in the tub and
drowned. The house was not properly processed

437
00:32:13.519 --> 00:32:17.359
as a crime scene, however,
no fingerprints or DNA samples were taken.

438
00:32:17.799 --> 00:32:22.000
But to be fair, there were
no signs of foul play at Kathleen's house,

439
00:32:22.519 --> 00:32:25.000
no sign of forced entry or burglary. But if you're Drew Peterson,

440
00:32:25.039 --> 00:32:29.279
you had a key, so you
didn't need to force yourself in. And

441
00:32:29.319 --> 00:32:32.680
there were no defensive wounds to her
body, which will go over later because

442
00:32:32.720 --> 00:32:37.559
maybe there were. However, it
was strange that the bathtub was stoppered but

443
00:32:37.680 --> 00:32:42.319
empty, and Kathleen's hair was wet
and her fingers were pruned. It's all

444
00:32:42.440 --> 00:32:45.200
very strange to me. I'm not
sure at what point the water would have

445
00:32:45.519 --> 00:32:49.960
right, Why were her fingers pruned? Yeah, it true, you know,

446
00:32:50.079 --> 00:32:54.400
like it was twenty four hours since
Ian Drew had tried to drop the

447
00:32:54.519 --> 00:32:58.599
kids off. We can assume she
was dead in the tub for at least

448
00:32:58.640 --> 00:33:00.319
twenty four hours, I believe.
So. Yes, yeah, it's changed

449
00:33:00.319 --> 00:33:04.599
because you could think, you could
imagine the water would slowly seep out even

450
00:33:04.640 --> 00:33:07.240
if it was stoppard, but the
fact that she was still wet. She

451
00:33:07.319 --> 00:33:09.400
was still wet, her hair was
wett, and think her body was wet.

452
00:33:10.119 --> 00:33:15.119
Give me Sarah woodmer vibes, remember
Sarah. Yeah. The financial settlement,

453
00:33:15.240 --> 00:33:20.119
which was said to be finalized the
next week, would force Drew to

454
00:33:20.160 --> 00:33:24.119
give Kathleen half of his pension,
the value of the house, which was

455
00:33:24.160 --> 00:33:29.240
over three hundred thousand dollars, and
I believe the house was paid for primary

456
00:33:29.279 --> 00:33:34.559
custody of the boys and division of
businesses the couple owned. Drew would also

457
00:33:34.799 --> 00:33:37.839
have to pay a couple thousand dollars
in child sport each month for his two

458
00:33:37.839 --> 00:33:44.119
sons, Thomas eleven and Christopher nine. Drew owned a one hundred thousand dollar

459
00:33:44.200 --> 00:33:49.039
life insurance policy on Kathleen, but
she also had her own policy that was

460
00:33:49.160 --> 00:33:52.960
valued at a million dollars, and
Drew was the beneficiary of that policy.

461
00:33:52.839 --> 00:33:59.559
I believe he still was at that
point sounds like he had a motive.

462
00:34:00.559 --> 00:34:06.519
He sure did and means Steve Maniaki, Kathleen's boyfriend of about a year,

463
00:34:06.759 --> 00:34:09.760
was the last person known to have
talked to her. He spoke to her

464
00:34:09.880 --> 00:34:15.039
on Sunday morning at about one am. She asked him to come over,

465
00:34:15.199 --> 00:34:19.840
but he was already in bed and
declined. No one was able to reach

466
00:34:19.920 --> 00:34:22.920
Kathleen all day on Sunday, Okay, So I just want to clarify the

467
00:34:22.920 --> 00:34:28.360
timeline before we go on. We
know that Kathleen was alive Sunday morning,

468
00:34:28.480 --> 00:34:31.360
very early at one am, yes, and her body was not found by

469
00:34:31.360 --> 00:34:36.559
the neighbors until Tuesday evening, right, so it was a pretty long period

470
00:34:36.599 --> 00:34:38.320
of time. But Sunday no one
heard from her, right, so she

471
00:34:38.440 --> 00:34:44.480
probably died on Sunday. That's what
I am thinking that early Sunday morning,

472
00:34:44.840 --> 00:34:50.920
that that's when Drew came over and
killed her. Kathleen's sister, Susan Savio,

473
00:34:51.039 --> 00:34:52.760
said she told her that if she
died, it may look like an

474
00:34:52.840 --> 00:34:58.760
accident, but it's not, and
she added, it's just very hard for

475
00:34:58.800 --> 00:35:02.119
me to accept what had happened.
His reactions to this were a laughing matter.

476
00:35:02.320 --> 00:35:07.519
He was cleaning everything out and he
was ready to get rid of the

477
00:35:07.559 --> 00:35:12.360
house. It's very hard end quote. An autopsy was done the day after

478
00:35:12.440 --> 00:35:15.960
Kathleen was found dead. The pathologist
didn't reveal anything suspicious in the autopsy.

479
00:35:16.480 --> 00:35:21.039
Kathleen was a normal, healthy,
forty year old woman. There were no

480
00:35:21.119 --> 00:35:24.880
drugs or alcohol in her system.
They found a one inch blunt laceration to

481
00:35:25.480 --> 00:35:30.159
Kathleen's scalp, a red abrasion to
her left buttox, three bruises on her

482
00:35:30.199 --> 00:35:35.119
lower abdomen, a bruise on the
back of her thigh, purple bruises on

483
00:35:35.199 --> 00:35:38.639
both shins, two abrasions to the
left wrist, an abrasion to her right

484
00:35:38.679 --> 00:35:44.960
index finger, and a red abrasion
on her left elbow. The pathologists believed

485
00:35:45.000 --> 00:35:47.639
that all of the bruising and abrasions
were older and from a prior incident,

486
00:35:47.719 --> 00:35:52.559
and did not contribute to Kathleen's death. He believed that the gash on the

487
00:35:52.599 --> 00:35:57.320
back of her head was consistent with
a fall. But it's strange because the

488
00:35:57.360 --> 00:36:00.719
tub was circular in nature, and
you know, I would think you would

489
00:36:00.719 --> 00:36:02.559
get a bump, a bad bump. What would you get a gash?

490
00:36:02.760 --> 00:36:07.400
Right? It seems unlikely and all
of those bruises. That was a lot

491
00:36:07.440 --> 00:36:12.760
of bruises were all from a previous, previous incident and not fresh. What

492
00:36:12.800 --> 00:36:17.280
do you think about that? I
am suspicious? The pathologist and paneled a

493
00:36:17.360 --> 00:36:22.280
six member jury for a coroner's inquest
in May two thousand and four. The

494
00:36:22.360 --> 00:36:27.320
jurors were able to choose between five
possible causes of death, natural, accidental

495
00:36:27.880 --> 00:36:32.320
suicide, homicide, or undetermined.
The verdict of a coroner's inquest holds no

496
00:36:32.519 --> 00:36:37.480
legal sway. An inquest is held
when the cause of death is suspicious but

497
00:36:37.559 --> 00:36:43.400
there is no obvious fall play.
The jury agreed with a pathologist and found

498
00:36:43.440 --> 00:36:49.159
Kathleen's cause of death to be accidental. Kathleen's sister was adamant that Kathleen's death

499
00:36:49.239 --> 00:36:52.320
was no accident and implored police to
take a closer look, a more thorough

500
00:36:52.360 --> 00:36:57.119
look. Quote. I was screaming
my head off. I was calling everyone

501
00:36:57.159 --> 00:36:59.960
I could. I had a suitcase
full of stuff. The coroner said,

502
00:37:00.199 --> 00:37:04.159
closed, it's an accident. I
asked the coroner's staff more than once.

503
00:37:04.440 --> 00:37:08.039
Is there any further testing you can
do? I'm thinking maybe exotic drugs or

504
00:37:08.079 --> 00:37:15.360
maybe a strange poison. Stacy was
Jew's alibi during the time of Kathleen's death.

505
00:37:15.760 --> 00:37:19.159
But it's kind of weird because you
know, we don't know her when

506
00:37:19.159 --> 00:37:22.039
she was three. She was dead. So Stacy was like, I was

507
00:37:22.079 --> 00:37:25.239
by his side for forty eight hours. I guess we don't know. When

508
00:37:25.280 --> 00:37:30.119
Stacy was questioned by the police,
Drew was by her side and he had

509
00:37:30.159 --> 00:37:35.159
coached her for hours before the questioning. Of course he had. Yeah,

510
00:37:35.360 --> 00:37:38.320
so, and you know you're not
supposed to have anyone with you when you're

511
00:37:38.360 --> 00:37:43.880
questioned by the police. Shrew produced
a will from the nineteen nineties that gave

512
00:37:43.960 --> 00:37:49.119
him ownership of Kathleen's estate, although
Kathleen had told her lawyer that she didn't

513
00:37:49.159 --> 00:37:54.079
have a will. Oh do you
think he forged it? Yeah? I

514
00:37:54.159 --> 00:37:57.960
do, I sure do. What
a guy, let's take a break,

515
00:37:58.000 --> 00:38:06.679
we'll be right back. You were
going to tell us a little bit about

516
00:38:06.719 --> 00:38:12.039
Stacy's background, right, yes.
Stacy and Cales was born on January twentieth,

517
00:38:12.119 --> 00:38:15.760
nineteen eighty four, in Downers Grove, Illinois, to Anthony and Christy

518
00:38:15.880 --> 00:38:21.000
Kele's. She was the third of
five children. Stacy had an older brother,

519
00:38:21.119 --> 00:38:25.480
Yelton, and three sisters, Jessica, Lacey, and Cassandra. Jessica

520
00:38:25.559 --> 00:38:30.159
sadly died in a house fire before
Stacy was born. Lacey, who was

521
00:38:30.159 --> 00:38:37.400
born two years after Stacy, died
from sudden infant death syndrome. After losing

522
00:38:37.400 --> 00:38:40.880
her second child, Christy fell into
a downward spiral. She left her children

523
00:38:40.920 --> 00:38:45.559
with relatives for weeks at a time
and saw them only occasionally. She spent

524
00:38:45.639 --> 00:38:51.199
time at a psychiatric hospital and struggled
with alcohol abuse, drinking a case of

525
00:38:51.199 --> 00:38:54.840
beer a day. She had several
run ins with the LAFT for disorderly conduct,

526
00:38:55.000 --> 00:39:00.960
drunk driving, damage to property,
and shoplifting. She was also charged

527
00:39:00.000 --> 00:39:06.320
with child neglect. Her husband,
Anthony, also an alcoholic, was abusive

528
00:39:06.360 --> 00:39:10.599
to Christy and the children. They
divorced in nineteen ninety. Anthony was granted

529
00:39:10.719 --> 00:39:15.639
custody of the children. Can you
met like the courts like which parent?

530
00:39:15.760 --> 00:39:21.800
Which alcoholic parent is less horrible to
the children? Yeah? So Anthony did

531
00:39:21.800 --> 00:39:25.719
get custody and he took the children, relocated to Florida and remarried. So

532
00:39:25.760 --> 00:39:30.320
the children, obviously they did not
have a stable environment. They moved frequently,

533
00:39:30.440 --> 00:39:36.079
and eventually they did return to Illinois. Yelton, Stacy, and Cassandra

534
00:39:36.480 --> 00:39:39.920
often had to depend on each other
because of their neglectful parents. The siblings

535
00:39:39.920 --> 00:39:44.480
were all very close. All they
had in the world was each other to

536
00:39:44.639 --> 00:39:47.599
depend on, and they had to
be really resourceful sometimes, you know,

537
00:39:47.599 --> 00:39:52.400
they didn't have food or money,
and they always made it work. And

538
00:39:52.679 --> 00:39:55.360
they did have some other relatives that
help them out from time to time,

539
00:39:55.400 --> 00:39:59.880
but the only ones they could truly
depend on were each other. Yeah.

540
00:40:00.679 --> 00:40:04.800
When Stacy was fourteen in nineteen ninety
eight, Christy left the house with only

541
00:40:04.840 --> 00:40:07.440
her Bible. She told her family
she was going to church, but she

542
00:40:07.639 --> 00:40:13.880
was never heard from again. Her
disappearance was never investigated. Nuts that is

543
00:40:14.079 --> 00:40:19.599
insane. Yelton was in and out
of jail on sexual assault and theft charges.

544
00:40:20.000 --> 00:40:22.519
When she was in high school.
Stacy went to live with her half

545
00:40:22.559 --> 00:40:24.880
sister, Tina, who was eight
years older. They were very close.

546
00:40:25.559 --> 00:40:30.679
Cassandra went to live with a family
friend named Pamela Bosco, who became her

547
00:40:30.760 --> 00:40:36.079
legal guardian. Stacy graduated from high
school a semester early and worked as an

548
00:40:36.119 --> 00:40:39.880
overnight hotel clerk at spring Hill Suites
in Bolingbrook, and that's where she met

549
00:40:39.960 --> 00:40:45.159
Drew Peterson. She was only sixteen
years old. Drew was forty seven.

550
00:40:45.039 --> 00:40:51.119
As Drew grew older, his romantic
partners seemed to become younger. They met

551
00:40:51.119 --> 00:40:55.679
when Drew's partner was romancing another clerk
at the hotel. Drew was charming and

552
00:40:55.760 --> 00:41:00.719
he made Stacy feel safe. She
preferred older men. Drew was generous with

553
00:41:00.760 --> 00:41:04.920
Stacy. He bought her a car, paid for her apartment, and helped

554
00:41:04.960 --> 00:41:07.119
her furnish it. It was more
than her parents had ever done for her.

555
00:41:07.840 --> 00:41:14.039
So Stacy is this vulnerable, very
vulnerable young woman, And I wouldn't

556
00:41:14.079 --> 00:41:16.599
call Drew charming or dashing, but
other people have, and I think she

557
00:41:16.719 --> 00:41:21.000
just he made her feel secure and
took care of her. No one else

558
00:41:21.239 --> 00:41:23.159
had been doing that, so I
think it was probably a huge relief to

559
00:41:23.199 --> 00:41:28.360
have him in her life right and
having an authority figure, someone who's a

560
00:41:28.400 --> 00:41:34.199
contector. And members of the bowling
Brook Police Department weren't happy when they discovered

561
00:41:34.199 --> 00:41:37.800
that, still married, Drew was
dating a miner, but the age of

562
00:41:37.800 --> 00:41:43.119
consent in Illinois is seventeen. However, if the person the miner is dating

563
00:41:43.280 --> 00:41:46.119
is in a position of authority over
them, it is considered illegal. For

564
00:41:46.159 --> 00:41:51.199
example, if they were a coach
or a teacher. Drew was determined not

565
00:41:51.239 --> 00:41:54.079
to be a person of authority over
Stacy by the Office of the Attorney General

566
00:41:54.119 --> 00:41:59.239
of Illinois. It's hard to believe, huh it is. But one question

567
00:41:59.320 --> 00:42:02.079
I have is earlier in the letter
that was written to Kathleen, the person

568
00:42:02.119 --> 00:42:07.440
writing the letter claimed that she worked
for the village, which in that situation,

569
00:42:07.440 --> 00:42:10.000
I would imagine he would be a
person of authority over her. But

570
00:42:10.159 --> 00:42:14.800
this sounds like she was working at
a hotel. I don't know if that

571
00:42:14.840 --> 00:42:17.800
person was mistaken, but I know
that Drew and Stacey met while she was

572
00:42:17.800 --> 00:42:23.239
working at the hotel. Okay.
Candace Aiken, Stacy's aunt, her mother's

573
00:42:23.239 --> 00:42:27.880
sister, said that she was like
a mother to Stacy. Quote. I

574
00:42:27.920 --> 00:42:30.760
met Drew in two thousand and one, right after she met him. It

575
00:42:30.800 --> 00:42:32.920
was pretty crazy, but she was
old enough to make her own choices.

576
00:42:34.000 --> 00:42:37.480
Yeah, she wasn't. There was
nothing I could do. She didn't have

577
00:42:37.519 --> 00:42:39.599
a mom, she didn't have a
lot of guidance. I don't mean that

578
00:42:39.679 --> 00:42:45.199
in a bad way. It's just
how her life was. She lived in

579
00:42:45.239 --> 00:42:47.559
California, so maybe she didn't feel
like there was anything that she could do

580
00:42:49.239 --> 00:42:52.079
that really bothered me. She's like, oh, she's like my daughter by

581
00:42:52.199 --> 00:42:55.960
I wouldn't let my daughter date a
fifty year old right, Yeah, Drew

582
00:42:57.000 --> 00:43:00.760
and Stacy were reckless having sex in
Drew's house when Kathleen and the children were

583
00:43:00.800 --> 00:43:05.400
sleeping. Drew had a secret room
in the basement that had a padlock on

584
00:43:05.440 --> 00:43:08.440
the door. It was painted all
black with mirrors on the walls and ceiling.

585
00:43:09.119 --> 00:43:13.199
Stacy would spend the night and sneak
out in the morning. That's not

586
00:43:13.239 --> 00:43:16.119
creepy, No, not at all. Drew Peterson was fired from the bowling

587
00:43:16.119 --> 00:43:21.800
Brook Police Department after working as an
undercover cop for seven years. He enjoyed

588
00:43:21.840 --> 00:43:24.400
being undercover, and his superior said
he was good at the work. Shrew

589
00:43:24.519 --> 00:43:29.880
was fired after he went rogue and
ran his own investigation into a gangster.

590
00:43:30.280 --> 00:43:36.039
At the same time, the state
was also pursuing an investigation into the same

591
00:43:36.079 --> 00:43:37.599
person, so they were pretty mad
when he screwed it up. No.

592
00:43:37.599 --> 00:43:45.000
No, he also tipped off a
biker gang about an impending drug bust.

593
00:43:45.519 --> 00:43:49.960
He was indicted, but the charges
were later dropped and he was rehired.

594
00:43:50.480 --> 00:43:52.760
Which is strange to me that they
hired him. Mm hmm, sounds like

595
00:43:52.800 --> 00:43:57.559
he had a very like his record
was he was always in trouble for something.

596
00:43:57.639 --> 00:44:02.280
He was over always overstepping his It
was Drew's world and everyone else was

597
00:44:02.320 --> 00:44:06.880
just living in it. And Drew
was a horrible husband. But he did

598
00:44:06.880 --> 00:44:08.639
work hard. I'll give him that. At one time he had as money

599
00:44:08.639 --> 00:44:13.719
as six jobs and business as he
owned, among them a printing company,

600
00:44:14.559 --> 00:44:20.280
a bar called Sud's Pub, a
karate school. He was a cable installer,

601
00:44:20.519 --> 00:44:27.079
a wedding photographer, a chimney sweep. It's a police office he did.

602
00:44:27.480 --> 00:44:30.000
He had all six of these businesses
or jobs at the same time while

603
00:44:30.079 --> 00:44:32.920
he was a police officer. I'm
not sure if they were all at the

604
00:44:32.960 --> 00:44:40.960
same time. Wow. There she
was also a licensed pilot. And by

605
00:44:42.000 --> 00:44:44.400
all accounts he was a good dad. But I wrote that, and then

606
00:44:44.480 --> 00:44:45.679
later on I found that one of
his sons was like, he was a

607
00:44:45.679 --> 00:44:52.760
horrible father. Wow, killing your
children's mothers enough to say you're probably not

608
00:44:52.800 --> 00:44:58.159
a good dad. Very valid point. Not long after Kathleen's death, forty

609
00:44:58.239 --> 00:45:01.800
nine year old Drew and nineteen year
olds Stacy were married on October eighteenth,

610
00:45:01.880 --> 00:45:07.360
two thousand and three. Can you
imagine going to that wedding and celebrating this

611
00:45:07.559 --> 00:45:12.480
union of these two people, that
thirty year difference, and poor Stacy just

612
00:45:12.559 --> 00:45:15.960
doesn't know what she is getting herself
into. Right, and not long after

613
00:45:15.480 --> 00:45:19.400
Kathleen died too. I mean,
I know they were, you know,

614
00:45:19.559 --> 00:45:23.639
not together anymore, but still,
that's the whole thing is just pretty ugan.

615
00:45:24.639 --> 00:45:27.960
And I don't know what the kids
are supposed to do with right.

616
00:45:28.920 --> 00:45:32.280
Drew proposed three times before Stacy relented
and said yes. Their son, Anthony,

617
00:45:32.360 --> 00:45:37.599
named after Stacy's father, was born
three months before their wedding in July

618
00:45:37.679 --> 00:45:42.159
two thousand and three. A daughter, Lacey, soon followed in two thousand

619
00:45:42.199 --> 00:45:45.119
and five. Remember Lacey was Stacy's
baby sister who had died in a fire.

620
00:45:45.840 --> 00:45:51.320
But Lacey Peterson, Wow, that
is weird. It's weird. It's

621
00:45:51.360 --> 00:45:53.400
not like Lacey is a common name, right, And there's a Kathleen Peterson,

622
00:45:53.559 --> 00:45:58.519
Kathleen Peterson, which it makes me
think there's something going on in the

623
00:45:58.559 --> 00:46:04.800
simulation. The simulation theory. Can
you can probably tell our listeners more about

624
00:46:04.800 --> 00:46:07.239
that if they don't know about it
all? Well, the theory is that

625
00:46:07.599 --> 00:46:10.480
it's very possible, perhaps even likely, that we are living in a simulation.

626
00:46:10.800 --> 00:46:15.559
Likely, yeah, because if you
I'm not going to do a great

627
00:46:15.639 --> 00:46:19.119
job of explaining this. But if
you lived in a society that had really

628
00:46:19.320 --> 00:46:23.159
powerful abilities to create a simulation of
a of the universe, you would do

629
00:46:23.199 --> 00:46:28.159
it eventually. And so if you
created a simulation, you would probably create

630
00:46:28.199 --> 00:46:31.360
lots of different simulations. And so
the odds are pretty good that we're in

631
00:46:31.519 --> 00:46:36.760
one of those. The odds are
good. Okay, you're going to have

632
00:46:36.800 --> 00:46:39.199
to give me some data to bake
that maybe we could do it. We're

633
00:46:39.199 --> 00:46:44.880
gonna have to bring a physicist on
to explain it a little better. Well,

634
00:46:45.039 --> 00:46:45.920
I think about this book a lot, But there's a book called The

635
00:46:45.960 --> 00:46:50.920
Midnight Library, And is that kind
of the same theory. There's kind of

636
00:46:50.920 --> 00:46:55.519
like different versions of our life in
different parallel universe type of thing. Yeah,

637
00:46:55.679 --> 00:47:00.320
OKAYO as a rabbit hole, we
should probably go further down. It

638
00:47:00.400 --> 00:47:07.840
absolutely not. Drew now had six
children, but his oldest two were like

639
00:47:07.000 --> 00:47:12.119
much older and were grown. And
I should mention too that Drew's two oldest

640
00:47:12.119 --> 00:47:15.840
sons are both older than Stacy.
Ask that. Yeah. After Kathleen's death,

641
00:47:15.880 --> 00:47:20.960
Thomas and Christopher moved in with Stacy
Andrew, and she legally adopted them.

642
00:47:21.440 --> 00:47:24.360
She considered them all her children,
and it sounds like she was fabulous

643
00:47:24.400 --> 00:47:29.599
with the kids and loved them dearly
and was a fabulous mom. Family was

644
00:47:29.719 --> 00:47:31.920
very important to her and she worked
hard to keep them all together. Stacy

645
00:47:32.360 --> 00:47:37.320
even helped me and Drew's relationship with
his extended family. Stacy Andrew's neighbor,

646
00:47:37.400 --> 00:47:42.719
Sharon Bakowski said, quote, Stacy
was your friend in five minutes and your

647
00:47:42.760 --> 00:47:46.400
best friend in ten. Family and
relationships were so important to her. End

648
00:47:46.519 --> 00:47:52.039
quote. Stacy and Sharon became extremely
close despite a twenty five year age gap.

649
00:47:52.480 --> 00:47:54.800
She told Sharon, quote, if
I'm missing, it's not an accident.

650
00:47:55.239 --> 00:47:59.320
He killed me. She would say
that to me all the time,

651
00:47:59.559 --> 00:48:02.239
many, many, many times.
End quote. Does that sound familiar.

652
00:48:02.280 --> 00:48:07.559
It sounds extremely familiar. Yeah,
I mean Kathleen said it to her sister.

653
00:48:08.239 --> 00:48:15.440
After Lacey's birth, Stacy underwent several
cosmetic procedures laci eye surgery, braces,

654
00:48:15.480 --> 00:48:20.039
a breast augmentation, liposection, a
tummy tuck, and laser hair removal.

655
00:48:20.599 --> 00:48:23.079
So Stacy's like twenty two, and
why does she need all these procedures?

656
00:48:23.280 --> 00:48:28.760
She was beautiful and I'm sure you
know she bounced back from her pregnancy.

657
00:48:28.840 --> 00:48:31.000
Is just fine. It's just bothers
me that she went through all that.

658
00:48:31.039 --> 00:48:36.880
And it's not clear if she wanted
the procedures or Drew wanted her to

659
00:48:36.920 --> 00:48:39.440
have the procedures, but Drew was
happy to pay for them, although he

660
00:48:39.639 --> 00:48:45.559
was angry when the plastic surgeon refused
to insert double the implants in one hundred

661
00:48:45.599 --> 00:48:52.559
pounds. Stacy doctor argued that her
body could not support such large breasts,

662
00:48:52.400 --> 00:48:57.719
and then Stacy just she was trying
really hard to portray this image as a

663
00:48:57.800 --> 00:49:01.119
mom, and she stuck dressing in
her cut off shorts, in her you

664
00:49:01.159 --> 00:49:05.199
know, crop tops, and started
dressing more like a mom. I'm sure

665
00:49:05.280 --> 00:49:08.800
Drew was not a fan of that. After Stacy's cosmetic procedures, Drew became

666
00:49:08.880 --> 00:49:15.639
obsessed with controlling her and frequently followed
her around town and would show up randomly

667
00:49:15.840 --> 00:49:21.480
wherever she was, which is horrible. I think oftentimes he was in his

668
00:49:21.519 --> 00:49:24.960
patrol car dressed in his uniform and
he would you know, just pop up,

669
00:49:25.159 --> 00:49:30.880
just stimidating. Yeah. Yeah.
About a year before Stacy's disappearance,

670
00:49:30.880 --> 00:49:34.880
in September two thousand and six,
her half sister, Tina Ryan, aged

671
00:49:34.920 --> 00:49:37.920
thirty one, died from colon cancer. Tina and Stacy were very close,

672
00:49:38.039 --> 00:49:43.760
and she was devastated by the loss
of her sister. She became depressed and

673
00:49:44.079 --> 00:49:47.320
was described antidepressants, and Drew saw
this as a sign of weakness. He

674
00:49:47.320 --> 00:49:52.639
didn't understand why Stacy was bereft and
quickly lost patience with her grieving. Stacy

675
00:49:52.679 --> 00:49:58.119
had suffered from postpartum depression as well
after the birth of her children, and

676
00:49:58.159 --> 00:50:02.280
then too, Drew just lacked and
would call her hormonal and crazy. And

677
00:50:02.320 --> 00:50:07.679
it's one of those guys that think
women on their period are irrational and any

678
00:50:07.840 --> 00:50:13.519
possible emotion was because she was having
her period. Yeah, Drew grew increasingly

679
00:50:13.599 --> 00:50:19.519
jealous. Stacy stapped marital counseling with
Reverend Neil Shory. Sometimes they met him

680
00:50:19.559 --> 00:50:23.400
as a couple, and sometimes Drew
went and sometimes Stacy went independently of each

681
00:50:23.440 --> 00:50:28.719
other. Reverend Shory said one day
that Stacy called him and asked to meet

682
00:50:28.760 --> 00:50:30.920
him at the Starbucks. There was
something she needed to get off her chest,

683
00:50:31.679 --> 00:50:35.199
and it happened to be the last
time he ever saw her. About

684
00:50:35.199 --> 00:50:38.920
two months before she disappeared, Stacy
confided a dark secret to him that had

685
00:50:38.960 --> 00:50:44.519
been weighing heavily on her. She
at first just told me more things about

686
00:50:44.559 --> 00:50:47.119
her life and her marriage, how
hard it was, the jealousy. And

687
00:50:47.920 --> 00:50:51.280
then she looked at me, and
I just had this sense that she was

688
00:50:51.280 --> 00:50:54.880
about to say something profound. I
said, whatever you want to tell me,

689
00:50:55.039 --> 00:50:59.039
you're free to do it. And
she sort of stared at me and

690
00:50:59.079 --> 00:51:05.599
she said he did it. I
said he did what? And she said,

691
00:51:05.880 --> 00:51:10.679
Drew killed Kathleen Saviot, Drew killed
his third wife. What did you

692
00:51:10.719 --> 00:51:14.239
say to her at that point?
I believe one of the first things I

693
00:51:14.280 --> 00:51:17.360
said to her was, what do
you want me to do with this information?

694
00:51:17.639 --> 00:51:21.719
And she said, I don't want
you to do anything. I just

695
00:51:21.719 --> 00:51:27.880
want you to know. Revn Shory
said he couldn't divulge everything Stacey had told

696
00:51:27.960 --> 00:51:30.440
him, but he was confident with
all the information that he had that True

697
00:51:30.519 --> 00:51:35.679
had killed Kathleen. I have some
issues with Reverend Schory. First of all,

698
00:51:35.920 --> 00:51:39.039
he's young, and he's good looking, and I don't think anything was

699
00:51:39.079 --> 00:51:44.000
going on between them, but well
Truth thought there was, which he's not

700
00:51:44.039 --> 00:51:50.719
a reliable source. But I watched
at least six different documentaries or you know,

701
00:51:50.840 --> 00:51:54.480
just different segments on TV shows,
and he was in all of them,

702
00:51:54.559 --> 00:51:58.440
it seemed, and that always is
a little suspicious to me when someone

703
00:51:58.800 --> 00:52:00.800
he does have some good information,
but he said, you know, what

704
00:52:00.840 --> 00:52:04.840
do you want me to do with
this information? Well, well, Reverend,

705
00:52:04.960 --> 00:52:08.880
if if Drew killed his other wife, shouldn't you tell Stacy leave right?

706
00:52:09.559 --> 00:52:14.320
I don't think he was a licensed
therapist, but but still I think

707
00:52:14.320 --> 00:52:16.440
that he could have protected Sugar.
Yeah. And the fact that he wanted

708
00:52:16.440 --> 00:52:21.480
to tell everyone his story, well, but he does say like, oh,

709
00:52:21.519 --> 00:52:23.280
I want everyone to know this story, and that's why he, you

710
00:52:23.320 --> 00:52:28.880
know, tells so many people.
Yeah. Stacy's sister Cassandra told Crime Watch

711
00:52:29.000 --> 00:52:32.800
Daily that she was planning to file
divorce just days before she disappeared. Stacy's

712
00:52:32.800 --> 00:52:37.679
aunt Candy, her good friend and
neighbor Sharon Bakowski, and Reverend Neil all

713
00:52:37.719 --> 00:52:42.920
corroborated that Stacy had confided in them
as well that she was going to enter

714
00:52:42.960 --> 00:52:47.239
her marriage. Furthermore, an attorney
named Harry Smith said Stacy had called him

715
00:52:47.719 --> 00:52:52.760
in the days before she disappeared,
seeking his counsel as well. On the

716
00:52:52.840 --> 00:52:55.960
night before Kathleen's body was found,
Stacy woke up in the middle of the

717
00:52:57.039 --> 00:53:00.639
night and noticed that Drew was not
in bed. She went downstairs. As

718
00:53:00.639 --> 00:53:04.800
he entered the house wearing all black, he put some strangely put some women's

719
00:53:04.840 --> 00:53:08.360
clothing in the washer, and she
really didn't question about it, and he

720
00:53:08.400 --> 00:53:13.920
went to bed and they never spoke
of it. Stacy began taking nursing classes

721
00:53:13.960 --> 00:53:17.440
at the local community college and the
fall of her disappearance and she was planning

722
00:53:17.440 --> 00:53:22.800
for a fresh start without Drew.
That's really sad, and she must have

723
00:53:22.840 --> 00:53:25.599
been so terrified. I mean,
if you were married to someone and you

724
00:53:27.719 --> 00:53:31.800
knew in your heart that that person
had killed his previous wife, that's just

725
00:53:31.840 --> 00:53:37.000
such a scary situation, especially when
he's a cop and you know that he

726
00:53:37.039 --> 00:53:42.159
can get away with things, and
that would be really terrifying. Well,

727
00:53:42.159 --> 00:53:46.000
Stacy was so young and impressionable.
I'm sure that when they first started dating,

728
00:53:46.000 --> 00:53:49.679
through was like, oh, Kathleen, it's horrible, you would believe

729
00:53:49.719 --> 00:53:55.360
this woman. And then Drew manipulated
this situation, put Kathleen in these situations

730
00:53:55.360 --> 00:54:00.960
where she was so emotional and made
her look a little crazy, like by

731
00:54:00.960 --> 00:54:05.159
stealing her camera and just you know, all the aggression microaggressions and some were

732
00:54:06.039 --> 00:54:12.880
not mi you know, bigger aggressions. Yeah, my point is that Stacey

733
00:54:13.440 --> 00:54:16.400
thought that Kathleen was crazy, but
then years into their marriage, she realized,

734
00:54:16.559 --> 00:54:21.440
oh, there's nothing special about me. I'm I'm going to be Kathleen

735
00:54:21.480 --> 00:54:24.679
too. She was trying to get
out of the marriage, but she,

736
00:54:25.320 --> 00:54:30.480
you know, she didn't do it
fast enough. We put the cart before

737
00:54:30.480 --> 00:54:32.519
the horse a little bit, and
we haven't talked about Stacy's disappearance, but

738
00:54:32.519 --> 00:54:36.880
I think we're going to have to
get to that next time. Oh not

739
00:54:37.000 --> 00:54:39.760
until part two, huh, Not
until part two, okay, but we'll

740
00:54:39.760 --> 00:54:46.639
definitely finish tomorrow and then we will
be done with Peterson's forever. I'm tired

741
00:54:46.679 --> 00:54:52.119
of the Petersons, me too.
All right, before we leave, do

742
00:54:52.119 --> 00:54:53.800
you want to talk about the show
we watched on Netflix last night? Real

743
00:54:53.880 --> 00:54:57.599
quick? Yeah, Well, we
just started watching it, so we only

744
00:54:57.639 --> 00:55:00.559
watched one episode, which was very
like I really I wanted to binge the

745
00:55:00.599 --> 00:55:01.400
whole thing, but I was like, Oh, I have this case to

746
00:55:01.440 --> 00:55:06.519
finish. It's called American Nightmare.
It's I think it's gotten a lot of

747
00:55:06.559 --> 00:55:08.880
attention. I've heard about it a
few places, so you may have already

748
00:55:08.880 --> 00:55:14.000
seen it. If you have,
don't tell us anything. The story is

749
00:55:14.079 --> 00:55:17.599
just a crazy, crazy story.
It's bananas and I just don't know where

750
00:55:17.599 --> 00:55:20.840
it's going to go, but I
am looking forward to and if you haven't

751
00:55:20.840 --> 00:55:22.280
watched it, you might want to
give it a try. It's called American

752
00:55:22.360 --> 00:55:28.920
Nightmare and it's on Netflix. Netflix. Who charges way too much these days?

753
00:55:27.760 --> 00:55:32.440
Oh, some criticism. It's so
expensive, it's ridiculous, and we

754
00:55:32.559 --> 00:55:37.679
threaten every month to stop it,
but we have not stopped. Yeah,

755
00:55:37.679 --> 00:55:40.320
well, we got to finish this
first. Well that's how they get you.

756
00:55:40.559 --> 00:55:44.079
Yeah, but it is fun when
we have like a collective documentary that

757
00:55:44.119 --> 00:55:46.840
we're all watching at the same time
and experiencing, because you know, we

758
00:55:46.880 --> 00:55:51.760
don't have that any as much with
I guess there's sports and some reality TV.

759
00:55:52.079 --> 00:55:53.559
Yeah, yeah, not like the
old days like who Shot Jr?

760
00:55:54.639 --> 00:55:58.079
Wished myself a little bit there,
But I was a child. I was

761
00:55:58.480 --> 00:56:01.840
a child, yeah, like three
years old, probably probably younger than I

762
00:56:01.920 --> 00:56:05.920
was, probably my mother's phoon.
I was probably a twinkle in my dad's

763
00:56:05.920 --> 00:56:07.000
eye, as they say. All. I think that's all we have.
