The Stalking of Kristil Krug: Digital Deception, a Framed Ex, and Murder in the Garage

On the morning of December 14, 2023, 43-year-old Kristil Krug went through the routine chaos of getting her three children ready and off to school from their quiet suburban home in Broomfield, Colorado. Brilliant, vibrant, and fiercely devoted to her family, Kristil was a valedictorian, biochemical engineer, and global project manager who balanced demanding environmental remediation work with being a dedicated dance mom. Yet beneath her everyday life, Kristil had been living under siege for months. Terrifying, obscene, and relentless messages from an apparent stalker followed her everywhere—monitoring her errands, threatening her husband, and soliciting strangers to harass her.

Living in constant fear, Kristil methodically documented every contact in spreadsheets for investigators, installed extensive home security cameras, and even trained with a concealed firearm for self-defense. But just after returning home from dropping her younger children off at school that December morning, Kristil was ambushed and violently killed inside her own garage.

What initially looked like a stalker’s deadly escalation soon revealed a far more sinister truth. The digital trail pointed not to an obsessed ex-boyfriend from two decades prior, but straight to Kristil's seemingly supportive husband, Daniel Krug. Facing an impending divorce and loss of control, Dan had orchestrated an elaborate months-long campaign of digital terror to isolate, manipulate, and ultimately murder his wife—framing an innocent man in a desperate bid to commit the perfect crime.
